Dead Blogs In The Middle of The Road

We are going to look at some of the most talented and the best prospects overseas. Some people really overlook these players, so this is the reason for the blog.

Danilo Gallinari:

NBA Position: Small Forward (SF)

Ht: 6-9

Wt: 210

Int Team: Armani Milan

Hometown: S. Angelo Lodigiano, Italy

Quick Notes: Gallinari is an excellent athlete. He has PG skills in a 6-9 body, a little bit like Lamar Odom. The best think about him is his great fundamentals and intangables. He is a overall playermaker, being able to create his own shot and pass the ball. Danilo has shooting range of more than 24 feet and likes to show it off greatly. Reads the defense well so he's able to receive a lot of fouls and go to the FT line many times per game, usually driving the ball to the rim. His intensity and heart for the game is outstanding.

NBA Similarity: Hedo Turkoglu or Tony Kukoc

Projected: Top 10 2008 NBA Draft

Nicolas Batum:

NBA Position: Shooting Guard/Small Forward (SG/SF)

Ht: 6-8

Wt: 210

Int Team: Le Mans

Hometown: Pont l'évêque, France

Quick Notes: Incrediblely agile player with great all around skills. His wingspan and jumping ability is amazing. Batum has a natural feel for the game while being very competitive. Unlike most other rookie youngsters, Nicolas makes his teammates better and gets better when it matters (down the stretch). He holds excellent confidence to shoot the basketball. His upside is outstanding, but he needs more experience. Has a diverse offensive game so he can do it all: shoot the ball, penatrate to the basket, and pull up off the dribble.

NBA Similarity: Rudy Gay

Projected: Late Lottery 2008 NBA Draft

Ante Tomic:

NBA Position: Power Forward/Center (PF/C)

Wt: 230

Int Team: KK Zagreb

Hometown: Dubrovnik, Croatia

Quick Notes: First of all, he has tremendous size and length. His post moves are top notch. Tomic has great touch from mid-range and very nice mechanics. He played point guard as a child so his passing is decent. He is versitale on the offesive side of the ball, being able to post-up or play facing the basket. He may seem finese with his great footwork down low, but Ante has shown willingness to bang inside in past competitions. Entered the NBA Draft last year but withdrew late to improve his game, which he has.

NBA Similarity: Pau Gasol

Projected: Late 1st Round 2008 NBA Draft

Omer Asik:

NBA Position: Power Forward/Center (PF/C)

Ht: 7-0

Wt: 220

Int Team: Alpella Istanbul

Hometown: Bursa, Turkey

Quick Notes: Consistency is something you don't need to worry about Omer. His natural position is center were he can block shots and rebound the basketball. He loves player his back to the basketball. Asik has progressed considerably over the last few years. He has great hands for a big man like him.

Nikola Pekovic:

NBA Position: Power Forward/Center (PF/C)

Ht: 6-11

Wt: 243

Int Team: Partizan Belgrade

Hometown: Bjelo Polje, Montenegro

Quick Notes: This big man uses his body very well in the paint. Nikola is a strong and physical player with good strength and size. If he catches the ball on the low post, it's very difficult to stop him because he loves playing his back to the basket. He understands his role on the court. Most of his points are around the basket; put-backs, dunks and rebounds. His favorite is the hook-shot. He gets to the free-throw line often and on the defensive end, he is a solid defender with long arms. He is a solid prospect, and one to keep an eye on this year.

NBA Similarity: Al Jefferson

Projected: Early 2nd Round 2008 NBA Draft

Nathan Jawai:

NBA Position: Power Forward/Center (PF/C)

Ht: 6-10

Wt: 275

Int Team: Cairns Taipans

Hometown: Sydney, Australia

Quick Notes: There is a great deal of potential in this bruising bigman. His soft touch, size, strength and explosiveness are one of the things that make him so good. He's 6-10 but plays bigger with long arms and excellent leaping ability. He has a great attitude for the game as well. He likes to get rough, can do the dirty work and shows passion, someone like Turiaf or Noah is who he plays like. He could jump all the way to the first round.

NBA Similarity: Erick Dampier

Projected: Mid 2nd Round 2008 NBA Draft

Semih Erden:

NBA Postion: Center (C)

Ht: 7-0

Wt: 249

Int Team: Fenerbahce Ülker Istanbul

Hometown: Gaziosmanpasa, Turkey

Quick Notes: He is known as Turkey's best prospect. He shows a long and lean body frame. Erden can show good athletic skills. He runs the floor well for a player his size. His jump shot reminds a lot of people like Okur, who is also from Turkey. The potential is undeniable, though at this point it appears he's wasting a good amount of his talent.

NBA Similarity: Mehmet Okur

Projected: Mid 2nd Round 2008 NBA Draft

Anton Ponkrashov:

NBA Postion: Point Guard/Shooting Guard (PG/SG)

Ht: 6-7

Wt: 200

Quick Notes: This lefty has legit point guard skills: excellent court vision and ball handling. Ponkrashov has great size and natural point guard instincts. He can penetrate and find open teamates as well. He is a good scorer despite a weird looking release. He is a solid decision maker and he likes to post up smaller point guards.

NBA Similarity: Zoran Planinic (less athletic)

Projected: Mid 2nd Round 2008 NBA Draft

Joe Ingles:

Postion: Shooting Guard/Small Forward (SG/SF)

Ht: 6-8

Wt: 195

Int Team: Melbourne South Dragons

Hometown: Happy Valley, South Australia

Quick Notes: Joe is listed as Guard/Forward but has the versatility and ball handling to play at point guard. Ingles has an exceptionally high basketball IQ and excellent fundamentals. He is able to put the ball on the floor effectively to get past defenders. has begun to develop a very solid mid-range game. This is also another lefty who is a terrific passer.

NBA Similarity: Tony Parker (bigger & less quick)

Projected: Mid 2nd Round 2008 NBA Draft
