The most important thing I got out of ESPN Radio's Mike&Mike Show this morning was the possibility of one of the biggest blowhards in all of sports media in one of the most ridiculous sporting events annually claiming he would walk off the ESPN broadcast if something did not go the way he believes it will. In case you were not listening, Kiper claimed this morning on Mike&Mike he will walk off the set on Saturday during the network's coverage of the 2008 NFL Draft if Boston College quarerback Matt Ryan is still on the board after the first eight picks.

No offense to Matt Ryan or his family, because I love the kid and his story at BC the last two years, but nothing would satisfy me more than Mel Kiper shutting the f!@# up for once and disappearing for good. While I believe the NFL Draft to be one of the most ridiculous events of the year, as well as the four weeks of mock drafts by NFL analysts who do not ever pay enough attention to college football to evaluate any of these players correctly, I may actually tune into for a bit this weekend if in fact Ryan is still on the board and this ultimate sports media geek does do what he threatened this morning.

Perhaps it's because I'm a Raiders fan and they have not and likely never will get the draft right as long as Al Davis is stil around. Perhaps because as I get older, I realize how much better college football is than the NFL for many reasons. Whatever the reason, I despise the NFL Draft and the weeks leading up to it. No one really has a clue what these teams will do and how these players will pan out. I have always believed there is no such thing as a draft bust in terms of the players. The real busts are the **** like Kiper and McShay (two guys who never got closer to being on a football field other than covering their high school teams for the school paper) who collect paychecks for "evaluating" and predicting how these athletes will do in the NFL. As year after year shows us, none of us know anything.

GM's with the Miaim Dolphins, Atlanta Falcons, St. Louis Rams - you must be laughing these days at these fools in HD TV telling the general public how and what you should do in your jobs this weekend. College players/soon to be draft picks, Ryan, Jake Long, Chris Long, Darren McFadden, Glenn Dorsey, Vernon Ghalston, and the rest, you too must be rolling in laughter watching these analysts (basically, the same type of geeks who have misquoted you weekly in your college newspaper sports sections the last three or four years) telling you how you will do in the NFL.

The NFL Draft and all its hoopla is a joke. Here's hoping the biggest joke of it all, Mel Kiper sticks to his word if it happens - and get the hell out of my sports fan life.
