- Braves SWEEP Dodgers
- Teixeira heating up
- Chipper quad still sore
- Jurrjens K's Andruw 3 times
- Soriano eyes return
The Braves looked solid this weekend vs the Dodgers. Kelly Johnson had a couple of nice hits, Jeff Francouer and Gregor Blanco also looked very good. Frenchy hit a nice double in the 8th after Teixeira's two run HR. The Braves really kept it going. Blanco went 5 for 9 on the series getting to start all three games. Matt Diaz came in to replace him in the 7th yesterday and promptly struck out twice. Matty needs to figure out what is wrong...and fast or Blanco will start platooning with him. Jurrjens also was very effective, striking out a career high, 8 batters, including Andruw 3 times. The Braves end up sweeping the series, beating LA 6-1, 4-1 and 6-1.
Mark Teixeria is finally heating up...hitting a clutch 2 run opposite field knock on Saturday to put the Braves head for good, helping them win 4-1.....and his 2 run Hr yesterday...going 6 for 12 in the series. He has his batting average up to .250, from .203 coming in.
Chipper sore quad is still hurting. He pulled it in Colorado and says it hurt more on Sunday than it has since that first day. He should play today, but I for one think he should sit out this entire series with Washington and just rest it. He needs to play in the upcoming METS series (especially since its at Shea).
Andruw Jones hit his first HR of the year, and in a Dodger uni...of Chuck James (seems fitting)...Chucky actually pitched very well...held the Dodgers in check. Andruw faces Jurrjens for the first time yesterday and struck out 3 times. He pitched him very nicely and exactly to his weaknesses which are DOWN and AWAY. He did a couple of times tease Andruw with some fastballs over the plate, which he took mostly.....then got him with those lazy down and away pitches that we KNOW he'll swing at.
Raffy Soriano played catch this weekend. Coach Cox says he should be able to throw off the mound this weekend and may come off the DL on Thursday.
I should also mention the bullpen was stellar. Blaine Boyer, Will Ohman, Manny Acosta, and Jeff Bennett were great...(Bennett did start on Friday).
So next up...Washington.
GO BRAVES!!!
