Sort of an interactive post here. I'd like your input on anything I missed, but I would like to list all the bad decisions that teams made this past season.
- The Bulls not pulling the trigger to get Kobe Bryant because they wanted to hang on to Luol Deng. While the Bulls would have lost a lot of key players, it's hard to imagine them doing any worse with Kobe playing in the East.
- Dallas Mavericks trading for Kidd. While the jury is still kinda out on this one, the Mavs were in competition for the top spot in the West when they did this. It seems more like they traded because everyone else was, when really this trade took them from a young talented team to an aging team, and also from the 3 seed to the 7 seed.
- Seattle Supersonics trusting Clay Bennett. While this stretches into last year and the year before, many still believed that Bennett was making good faith efforts to keep the team in Seattle while really packing his bags.
- Memphis Grizzlies drafting Mike Conley jr. Yes, he looked good on the draft board, but he's stuck behind two no-names on a terrible team while players like Scola, Noah, and Al Thornton were available and would have been more able to contribute.
- Miami Heat relying on an aging roster and Ricky Davis to support Wade and Shaq. Really, their demise isn't very surprising. Wade was coming off an injury, Shaq was aging, and their depth was all but gone. Rebuilding was an inevitability even when the won the title due to the age and makeup of the roster. It just came so fast.
- Memphis Grizzlies (on here twice) trading Gasol for basically crap. This doesn't really require hindsight.
- Golden State letting Jason Richardson go. They could have used him, both for his talents and the rest he could have given Davis, Jackson, and Ellis. I can't help but think his departure cost the Warriors a playoff berth.
