Heard some news today that David Pollack, one of my favorite Georgia Bulldogs of all-time, is set to retire. Pollack, who was drafted by the Bengals in the 1st Round of the 2005 NFL Draft, suffered what now appears to be a career-ending injury when he fractured his C6 vertebrae in Game 2 of the 2006 season against the Cleveland Browns. Pollack's recovery did not satisfy him, so he decided to give it up and retire. Some may question this decision, but the only problem I have with it is that it should have came sooner.
I remember hearing about David basically breaking his neck in 2006, and the first thing i remember hearing after the Bengals announced he would try to return to the NFL was my dad saying that he would be an idiot to do so, and I completely agreed. I mean, come on, a lot of people who suffer an injury like that would become paralyzed immediately. David had a family to think about, and I think he should have went ahead and called it quits. Although it looks like it will all come out in the wash, David's decision could have resulted in his death when he would have returned to the football field.
