Well, somebody has to write this post-mortem. And it's MY blog, ain't it??
It's over.
6 minutes into overtime, the remarkable season of the Washington Capitals came to a heart-wrenching end. The fact this game went into overtime, should tell you there was no quit from either team.
The final score--3-2, Flyers--isn't the real story here. For 60 minutes plus, America (and parts of Canada) saw one hell of a game tonight. Hey, Alex did his part to get the Caps heading towards the win column...but it wasn't enough, apparently.
So now, we know who plays who in the Eastern Conference. Philly gets Montreal; the Penguins get the Rangers. (It was the Rangers, right??) Way I see it, it's a Pens-Habs conference final. I'm not gonna do the Western Conference; I haven't kept up with that, to be honest. I'm sure somebody will write about that side of the deal.
I'll take this time right now, and congratulate the Flyers for a hard-fought series. Their fans, on the other hand, are a different story. I can honestly say, from having dealt with some of these detestable scum on the ESPN.com chat board(s) for this series, you've simply pointed out just why normal-thinking fans won't set foot anywhere near Philly. I think I'll drop the subject at this point, and move on...
At any rate, this is the point where I cut back on this blog for awhile. Time to put this place in hibernation until NEXT season...but until then, I'll drop an (occasional) blog on here during the remainder of the playoffs. If not, probably when the NHL draft happens in June.
To all of you who took time out to comment during the Caps' run, thank you. We're @ 13 members now in this group; let's see how many of you stay, after tonight.

c'mon bro, we are not all that bad as Flyers fans. Sure the vocal minority can be complete wastes of skin but I think every team gets that. We just know the game well, love our teams and get passionate about our sports. And in the end we certainly give respect where respect is due.
Both teams made this a great series. Definitely one of the best series I've seen in a long time. And I think the sky is the limit for both of these teams as well with the youth and depth for both clubs.
Thank you to the Caps for a gritty well fought series that was chippy but there really weren't any major cheapshots, It was just great, edge of your seat playoff hockey.
The refs were too involved early in the series but I think they called Game 7 really well. Let the guys play.
And while I don't agree with OV's exaggeration at times. He is definitely the best, most complete player in the league right now and he gained a lot of respect from me in the way he acknowledged the fans before skating off the ice,
Oh and Huet is SICK in net. A couple of the saves he made in this series were unreal.
But anyway, great game, great series, GO FLYERS!!!

Report Offensive CommentTalk **** about the Flyers fans, because the Capitals fans showed some real class hitting carter in the head with a beer bottle after the game.

Report Offensive CommentI don't think you have any right to start dissing the Flyers fans. I mean chucking stuff at the Flyers during the well deserved celbration? That's the lowest of the low. That moment let the Washington Capitals down - everything they did meant nothing after that bottle hit Carter

Report Offensive CommentApparently Ovechkin was injured in round 1 and had to take painkillers in the last two games. Hope he gets and stays healthy for the next 13 seasons...

Report Offensive CommentListen, I'LL sit here and admit throwing crap onto the ice after the game ended wasn't cool...but I'll chalk it up to "heat of the moment". It WAS overtime, you know.
It WAS a hell of a series, wasn't it??
Now to see what the draft in June brings us. Another Alex, or Nicklas Backstrom?? Who knows??
