Okay, something funny is happening around Queens. A bunch of people, who claim to be “fans” of this team seem to think that the Mets’ first base problems can be solved with two snaps of a finger and a bag of magic beans.
There are no viable free agent and/or trades that can fill this hole. And since no one seems to remember the Mike Piazza/Jason Phillips experiment, the “let’s move established players” movement is alive and well in the blogosphere.
Below are some of the…ahem…better reader suggestions.
(You should all be ashamed…)
Ryan Church
Yes, let’s take the team’s best outfielder and move him to a position he’s never played in his professional career. Nice call, you mental midget. Go follow the Phillies.
Moises Alou
If you said this, you are dumber than a box of hair. The man is 41, injury-prone, a career outfielder, and…oh yeah…he’s 41! We’re lucky if he doesn’t pull a hamstring while powdering his bedsores.
Angel Pagan
Love the kid. Want him to keep his starting LF job when Alou returns. Likely has the infield skills of a leper. Next…
Marlon Anderson
Nothing spells first base success like a 5′10″ righty, pinch hitting specialist.
Damion Easley
Way too busy covering second base while Luis Castillo counts his millions in a DL hot tub.
Brady Clark
Wait, he’s on this team?
Fernando Tatis
Wasn’t good enough to beat out the mighty Brady Clark.
Mike Carp
I’m listening. The kid is still trying to master the overpowering AA slider, but for a change, we have a legitimate first baseman in mind. Finally, someone who isn’t wasting oxygen.
Kevin Millar
I’m sorry, you must be lost. Old Red Sox usually end their careers in the Bronx. Contact Johnny, Wade and Roger for more information.
Mike Jacobs
Now, this is just mean.
Carlos Delgado
Yeah, I’m not happy about it either. But face it folks, we’re stuck with him. Let’s hope he remembers how to cover a base by the time the Mets face the Braves this weekend. Speaking of which…
Mark Teixeira
Anyone thinking what I’m thinking for next year?

Naw, my Yanks ain't getting him. Although he's a good clubhouse guy. Speaking of Tex, he can be wearing pinstripes next year. Although as a Yanks fan, I'd LOVE to have Nick Johnson back.
On Delgado, he's looking bad. Really bad. Sooner or later, you'd have to bench him if you wanna make the playoffs.
