1. Brenden Morrow, Stars: Dallas' rambunctious captain scored his second goal of the game 4:39 into overtime to seal a larcenous Game 1 win over the Sharks in San Jose. It was the second career OT clincher for Morrow, who banged home a pass from Mattias Norstrom after Evgeni Nabokov lost an edge. Earlier, Morrow had given the Stars a surprising 2-1 lead midway through the second after converting a cross-crease feed from Mike Ribeiro.
2. Marty Turco, Stars: The Stars bent under the relentless pressure applied by the Sharks, but didn't break thanks to Turco, who was at his athletic best in Game 1. Without him, the game would have been lost in the first as San Jose used their size and aggressive play to outchance the visitors by a wide margin.
3. Jarkko Ruutu, Penguins: Pittsburgh's weapon of mass distraction was a physical force in the Game 1 win over the Rangers, delivering 10 hits on a variety of unlucky Blueshirts, and igniting his team's comeback from three goals down with a lucky-bounce goal midway through the second.
