Notre Dame- 11 National Championships, 7 heisman trophy winners, and 95 consensus All-Americans. They never get in brawls (Miami). They rarely if ever get in legal trouble (USC). So why are we hated so much? I'm probably going to get a lot of hate mail on my profile for this, but I've figured out why.
When I was looking through the Truth and Rumors college section, I found an article on Notre Dame's quarterback race. It basically said that Charlie Weis had narrowed its list of contenders to Sharpley, Jones, and Clausen. I looked through the comments, just to see who people thought would start. Instead of finding comments about the quarterback race, most of the comments were about how much people hated Notre Dame. This is why they hate us.
1. We used to be the unbeatable team and now that we're having a few bad years, they're saying that we never deserved it at all.
2. They hate us for all our media attention and the BCS clause. Okay, sure, it is a little unfair, but how is it Notre Dame's fault that we're being offered these great contracts. Name a school that would say no if they were offered that.
3. They are jealous. We have always been America's team and they are looking for revenge on the way that we destroyed them back in the days of Rockne, Parseghian, and Holtz. They are jealous that we had a blockbuster movie made about us.
I say let them have fun now, but when Notre Dame comes back and gets a few national championships there are a few things that they might do.
1. Join the bandwagon and become Irish fans again.
2. Sulk about how Notre Dame always wins everything and then quit Fan Nation.
3. The true fans will stick it out and take all the criticism.
Just like we're doing now!

Report Offensive CommentTrue fans must take the criticism better than coaches with contracts...ask Willingham how he likes the Pacific Northwest. In college football, I am not quite an ABND (Anybody but Notre Dame), mainly because there are other schools I dislike more. Before the OT rules changed, we loved the Texas-ND matchup, hoping for a 0-0 tie. When ND was winning National Championships in the 80s, oh well, you had a great team. You are/were America's Team, hated/loved like the Dallas Cowboys and the New York Yankees. But how much dust has gathered on that National Championship trophy? How long does that free ride continue? Now, when more deserving teams are getting passed over in BCS bowls, and the much desired $14 million payout that goes with it, to see outmanned and overmatched ND teams play them, it doesn't sit well with us non ND-ers. You are right, the favoritism is not the school's fault, nor do I have to shut up and take it. The NBC TV contract, hey good work if you can get it. But the favoritism in the BCS selection process leaves a lot to be desired.

Report Offensive CommentWell, gentlemen Notre Dame is now in the right track with Wies, Brown and co. on-board. I believe that Notre Dame has the talent to beat USC this year and the ranked teams. In addition, Notre Dame should be well ranked after this season. However, this coming season should be a lot of fun to watch. The year of upsetting ranked team. Goo Notre Dame!!!

I'm sure you were referring to the FIU debacle with UM, but you have to be objective - or at least try.

Report Offensive CommentYou forgot one key aspect as to why people are anti-Notre Dame. First off I am a die hard Penn State fan but I offer my comment in peace and put all feelings aside. Fair enough?
One thing that seems to bother people is Notre Dame's scheduling. Yes ND has teams like USC and Michigan on the schedule every year so there is some tough competition. Where the problem lies with people is the feeling that ND loads up on patsies to boost their win total, and thus sometimes, sneak their way into a BCS bid (as in the last couple of years).
Teams like Navy, Stanford, Duke, and Air Force don't impress people. Upcoming games against San Diego State and North Carolina won't do much to change those feelings.
Until Notre Dame consistently beats quality opponents on a regular basis the doubters will be plenty abundant with Notre Dame.

Report Offensive CommentHey I'm new to this but I bleed green every day of my life I am a catholic and I've been told to love the IRISH because thats what we do and I do love the IRISH, my brother and I are gunho irish fans now the rest of my family are Penn State fans now every year we heard that the S@*$lly Lions are better than the irish and every year we just said your so great, way to lead the series now we have to hear it again cause the irish lost last nite to a piss poor team and your right they are just jealous of us cause we had greats like the four hourse man and even though he wasnt a big guy we had rudy and the rocket and the bus before he went to the dark side and going to the steel city but thats another time and place but reading up through the comments and your partly right people do have a problem with the sttength of schedule but as far as navy goes learn the story then open your mouth and I remember a few years ago when it was the battle of the unbeatens between Air Force and ND so dont point fingers at us cause everyone does it hell look at MIch losing to a team that aint even in the 1-A so dont hate on us cause we have more trophys and a bigger fan base cause we do you can go any where in the US and you will have hundreds of ND fans behind you so please dont bost about how great we were dont hate cause we clean your clockes just be happy we let you bleed on the same field as us because we are more than just the IRISH NATION WE ARE A WAY OF LIFE

Report Offensive CommentThe reason why so many people hate ND is because of the schools and fans "we're better than you" attitude. Every ND fan I ever met brings up what they have done in the past. They are all snobs. When I attend ND games in southbend their fans are the worst to visiting schools. No one invites you to have a few beers or shares food with you or anything. Other schools pre-games are way better no matter what jersey you wear. ND sucks!! and it's attitude better change cause your team and your "Man" Weis is gonna stink for a few more yeaars...

Report Offensive Commentits easy to hate notre dame because of getting all of the media attention when we are having bad years. notre dame has problems are like i read above, is that were on the right track with weis. look at notre dames schedule and also their players, schedule 5-6th best in the nation, while playing more than half being sophomores and freshmen. Okay, we need to realize something also, our WR could not get YAC when they got the ball in their hands. bad snaps from the center doesnt help either. So what do we get, the best center in the nation from Granger Indiana from Penn High school. Hang in there irish fans, we been on a bumpy ride, but only the true shall survive.
