What are the Patriots thinking this draft?

I want to know what the **** the Patriots have been thinking when they have been picking. So far they have slected LB Jerod Mayo, CB Terrence Wheathly, OLB Shawn Crable, and a QB(what the hell) in Kevin O'Connell. Mayo and Whealty make sense but were not the best possible picks at those positions and the do not need a QB.

The Pats had the seventh pick and since Ghoulston was no longer on the board traded down to ten. Now at the tenth pick every CB who entered the draft was still available. However, they select LB Jerod Mayo who wasn't project until 15 for most experts. I understand we need to get younger at LB but Rodgers-Cromartie and McKelvin both future #1 CB were available. They should have picked one of them and made our secondary that much better.

Then in the second round they have the 62 pick and select that CB from Colorodo. Terrence Whealty may be good but he hasn't gone aganst tough competition and is a nickel back next year in NFL. Well since if we picked CB at ten we will be looking LB here. With this pick they select Dan Connor who a month ago was a top 15 pick and is a steal at 62. He can play ILB splitting time with Bruschi and maybe Seau with Thomas play OLB.

Now in the third round they have to picks because of the trade down. At pick number 78 from the Saints they selected OLB Shawn Crable which was a good pick. This gives them another good LB to put into the roation next year and future starter. BUt then at 94 they select a QB for reasons unknown to me. Why when you ahve Brady and two good backups do you draft a QB in the third round. With that pick they could have selected OL, DL, or another CB. Some names to consider are Justin King, Chad Rinehart, and Oseil Cousins. The best of that is King who was supposed to be a seocond rounder

You said it yourself, "For reasons unknown to me." I liked all of New England's picks so far, and trust this organization to make decent selections.. If half of them pan out would be considered doing extremely well. Pats go by the value system, and obviously they think this O'Connell kid was worth taking at the 94th pick. I dont even like to think of anything happening to Brady, but if it did what are the options? Matt Cassel? Gutierrez?

If I had any money, I would bet it all on Jerod Mayo being the defensive rookie of the year. I thought it was a great pick.

I hate to remind Patriots fans not to be short-sighted, but do you happen to remember how Tom Brady got his job? Drew Bledsoe got crushed, and couldn't play. Brady wasn't a rookie, either.

Despite your obvious knowledge about Matt Cassel's physical demeanor on the sideline, he's never played, you have no idea how good he is. The players aren't fans, either. Cassel's not staying with the Patriots when his contract is up unless the Patriots want to guarantee him a bunch of money. He's not there for the love of Boston, or for the organization, or anything like that. He's there cuz he's paid well. When his contract is up, do you think he's going to stay for less money? Doubtful.

Maybe the Pats thought that the CBs still available at 10 weren't worth the money they would have to pay at that spot. Sometimes you find a gem in the 5th or 6th round. You have to take chances in the draft and hope some of them pan out. I think Belichick and Pioli are the best at evaluating talent. We'll have to wait and see. You know the Pats never overpaid for anyone.

Mayo is the best inside linebacker. Good inside linebackers are worth more then corners in the patriots system. They got the number 2 linebacker in the Draft. you should be happy

From what little we have seen of Matt over the years in garbage time, has made me a little nervous to say the least. I think maybe the Pats are wanting Matt to go ride the pine for another team, because if he hasnt impressed them by now, he never will. Contracts up? Oh great, next.
