They're wraping up the 2008 NFL Draft as I'm typing this (in fact, the Redskins' next-to-last pick...#242, Rob Jackson of K-State @ DE...just came up), so this is as good a time as any to do a wrap-up blog. This blog, however, has but one rule...and it's not open to debate.
This is your blog, fellow FNers, to salute not just how your team fared...but also, to let your fellow bloggers know how you feel towards THEIR team's efforts in the draft. No trashing will be allowed. Honesty is OK, mind you, but let's keep the vitriol out of this conversation (if only for one day, anyway).
Since this is my blog, I get to go first.
I'm surprised Darren McFadden went to the Raiders at #4. Looks like I can't bust Thug's nuts over this one, just as I can't give Hova any grief over Vernon Gholston going to the Jets at #6. (God, I hope I spelled it right.) It's good selections, guys. I can't argue with either one.
Even more surprising, is seeing Mario Manningham (Michigan) fall all the way down to the 3rd round for the Giants. But I can see why Big Blue took him. After all, how much longer has Amani Toomer got?? Plus, Sinorice Moss has to show everyone he's not just Santana's little brother. Manningham's good, but remember he did lose a season @ Michigan to a broken leg his junior year. Maybe that explains why his stock fell...
Nice to see Tom Santi (from UVA, natch) go to the Colts. He'll learn at the feet of Dallas Clark, so it's a lead-pipe cinch Peyton'll get him some balls when he comes into the game. Hey look, the 'Hoos turn out tight ends like clockwork (HELLO, Heath Miller???), so there's another target for Peyton.
See how simple this is, folks??
Now, you know I can't let this go without bringing up how the Skins did in this draft. LORD, did we make out like bandits or what?? I mean, I'm surprised Devin Thomas was there for the picking, as well as Malcolm Kelly. Taking Fred Davis in between them, shows that we're committed to this West Coast offense. So, we have weapons.
But, here's that word--"surprised"--again.
Todd Collins has officially been served notice: Your days in the Burgundy and Gold...are numbered. Colt Brennan just became Jason Campbell's backup. Yes, you read that right, people. Colt Brennan, taken by the Redskins in the 4th round. Shocked the hell out of me when I saw the crawl go by (cutting away from the race for a moment). I stood here and said the Skins needed to take a QB to hold the clipboard for a few years...but, holy mama, COLT BRENNAN?? Just taking him, gave us at least one more win (and maybe 2) than I thought.
Well, that's MY "final word" on the draft. Now it's your turn. Remember, be nice to your fellow FNers when you comment. Otherwise, you deal with me...and you don't want to piss me off, folks!!!
