The West Michigan Whitecaps will be honoring the Detroit Tigers 1968 World Series Championship team on Friday May 2 when the 'Caps take on the Quad City River Bandits.
The Whitecaps and the River Bandits, a St. Louis Cardinals affilate, will be wearing the uniforms of their parent clubs during the game. The Tigers beat the Cardinals in 1968 to win the Series.
Whitecaps fans will also have the pleasure of meeting and getting autographs from members of the 1968 team. Mickey Lolich, John Hiller, and Gates Brown will all be on hand at 5/3 Ballpark. They'll be on the concourse signing autographs from approximately 6:30-7:30. Starting pitcher Mickey Lolich was the MVP of the series, while Hiller was an ace reliever, and Brown a great pinch hitter.
Also, the first 1,000 fans will recieve a championship plaque. Good promotion by the 'Caps. This should bring some fans in to see some good baseball.
The Whitecaps are currently 14-10, tied for first place in the Eastern Division withe the Lansing Lugnuts.
