I'd like to thank the academy for this award...

My newfound respect across FanNation continues. I've now been afforded the opportunity to write on here, after...what, 7 months or so since I joined?? Hey, I'm not complaining, mind you.

I just wish they'd done this BEFORE I went out and created my "Radio Free Ashburn" blog...which, BTW, I ain't giving up.

But anyway, on to the draft. Or more importantly, how the Redskins did in the draft. Which is to say, surprises abound.

They worked out Malcolm Kelly, and apparently liked what they saw. Devin Thomas was a bit of a surprise to me, in that I hadn't considered him to be Redskins material. Looks like I stand corrected. As for Fred Davis, he'll compliment Cooley rather nicely.

Now, we get to the real surprise of this draft for the Skins: Colt Brennan. I gotta tell you, it shocked the hell out of me when I looked at the crawl on ESPN's coverage of the draft and saw in the 6th round "WAS: Colt Brennan--QB--Hawai'i". Let me say this now, this guy has an arm...and the smarts to run the West Coast offense. He's here to back up Jason Campbell, NOT take the starter's job away from Jason. Bottom line.

As for the rest of the draft, these are names I don't know much about. Hey, I ain't Mel Kiper, and I ain't Todd McShay. Guess we'll just have to wait for minicamp to find out.

And so ends my first blog for the "Hail to the Redskins" group. I'll take the time now to thank Big Ben and the other administrators of this place, for having something approximating faith in my writing across FN, to let me do this.

I just bring a perspective to this joint of having been immersed in Redskins Nation for what (in 2008) will be my 42nd season. I'm about as "old school" as you'll get. Trust me on this.

Pulling a Josh at the end.
