I will start off with what I liked about the Cowboys draft then go down. I liked the No. 25 selection of CB Mike Jenkins. He has good size at CB and is very fast. He is a good PR/KR which also translates well to when he intercepts the ball, he goes into punt return mode. A physical playmaker who I feel whill be much like CB Asante Samuel.

The other pick I like is 4th round RB Tashard Choice. This guy is almost the same as Marion Barber just a little more burst. He can do everything. He is just a little faster top end than Marion, but both of them are just great players. So if MBIII goes down, I have all the faith in the world that Choice can get it done. By having such an explosive offense, Choice will get better running lanes.

4th round choice shipped to the Titans for CB Pacman Jones. He is a trouble maker, yes. But he knows he has no more chances left and must provide for his family. Also, he is playing for a contender. That is a big deal to EVERY player in the NFL. Why would you mess up? Jones and Jenkins give us two very physical/size/speed/returner abilities right away.

5th round choice CB Orlando Scandrick. At 5-10 195 and a 4.32 40 time, the Cowboys added more athleticism to the Secondary that lacked in that department. I feel soooo much more releaved now that CB Jacques Reeves and Nate Jones aren't going to be out there in the Dime package. Many scouts thought that Scandrick would go in the 3rd round. Luckily for him and Dallas he didn't. Speed kills.....and that is something the Cowboys needed. Now the Secondary won't get shredded as much or at all....(BESIDES ROY WILLIAMS)

I hated the Felix Jones pick. I wanted a WR or S Kenny Phillips. But, when RB Rashard Mendenhall fell to the Cowboys, I couldn't help but to want him. He was my No. 1 rated RB and the Cowboys No. 2. He will be the be the best RB in this class by far. Why draft a ROLE Player when you can get an eventual superstar? Darren McFadden won't be lining up at QB and let Felix run Reverses and End arounds. Arkansas ran a lot of Zone Blocking scheme. When I watch his game tapes the Defenses would be way out of position because of DMC and not in their lanes. This won't happen in the NFL. The only thing I can hope is that Felix Jones who only ran a 4.47 can be a Dynamic Return man in the NFL. He won't be Devin Hester........Worth a 1st round pick? No.

TE Martellus Bennett......Who do we need a 2nd round TE with a 4th round grade. There are many more physically gifted and better blockers than Bennett. Why didn't we get a guy like TE Kellen Davis out of MSU. He is bigger, way faster, and better at blocking. I just don't see the need. If you wanted a blocker, they should have gotten TE Cottam form Tenn. in the 3rd round.

Again, one last time....Why would you draft an overrated Backup? Marion and Mendenhall could kill defenses together and Mendenhall can break the big runs as well as punish a defense. Oh well. Jerry Jones will regret this forever. Randy Moss or Greg Ellis? Same thing here.

I give this draft a B. Because of the other pickups I love......but Felix, Martellus, and No WR.........makes me upset!

Bennett isn't so bad. He's a pretty decent athlete that could mature into something. Plus, with Witten there you can bring him along slowly.

At first I liked the Jones' pick but the more I think about it, the Cowboys should have taken Mendenhall.

I think the first two picks where good ones. What gets me is that they traded a Starting Linebacker and a Second Round Tight End to Miami for an Forth Round pick??.Fansano new the system. They had a tight end. With that Third Round pick in which they choiced Bennet. They could have gotten a Wide Receiver.Than they start to move back with there other picks. Those picks could have brought in a Quarterback like Colt Brennin or Woodson,or they could have package them to get Malcom Kelly or Sweed.Thats what I would have done.

i was a big fan of the jenkins pick but i also dont no y if we were gonna take jones we didnt take jenkins at 22 and then not sacrafise the picks at to trade up to 25 and get jones there. With that said, how can u pass on mendenhall there with barbers contract. You can always find speed runningbacks not to mention charles in the third but even so you cannot take players that are going to be in reserve roles when starters are on the board. Mendenhall also would have given us great leverage in the Marion Barber contract talks and now if we lose him we r looking at two running backs that are not proven even though i do like the two we got. I also love the look if our new secondary adding three cornerbacks which all we got great value on. Lastly, I like the choice of Bennett from A&M because he has great measurables, big and quick, and he was a great athlete out of high school. He also was in a scheme were they ran the ball and never had consistent quaterback play so he also has gained great blocking skills in college. Overall we had a good draft day but taking Mendenhall over Jones would have soldified this draft as an A for me

whatever! If you would take the time to read instead of shooting from the hip you would know that Mendenhall was a pain in the rear end when he wasnt starting (which he wouldnt be doing in Dallas anyways). His work ethic lacked and he was vocal about his feelings.

Jones has the second highest ypc avg in NCAA history. Lets not just dismiss that because he complimented another great RB.

The WR's in this draft wouldn't have helped Dallas out for a while if at all. Lets not forget about Austin, Crayton and Steinbach who have been in the system and are learning the ropes as NFL WR's. Dont forget that Crayton and Steinbach were college QB's.

I just totally do not agree with what you say about how great Mendanhall is and how much of a scrub Jones is. If Mendanhall was so great why did it take him 2 years to overtake a mediocre back named pierre?

May 1, 2008  06:36 PM ET

And dont forget about Sam Hurd either. Hes young and now has 2 seasons under his belt.

Mendanhall would be what Marion Barber was and Jones would be what Julius couldnt be.

May 2, 2008  12:32 PM ET

uh, does nobody realize that u couldnt of gotten Jones at 28? The titans took chris johnson at 24, but would have taken the much higher rated jones had he been there, so we couldnt have even traded up to get him since mendenhall and jones would have went 23, 24 if we took jenkins at 22

May 2, 2008  05:42 PM ET

I think Jenkins was a steal at 25.I would have taken Sweed in place of Bennett. With Fasano gone we could have moved up Curtis(who played very well last year). And with all the trades Jones made for next years draft(great moves1) the Cowboys could move up to draft a WR. Jones/Mendenhall time will tell on this one but if the Cowboys were at the bottom of the division then yes take Mendenhall. Overall a A-

May 3, 2008  01:02 AM ET

The titans may have been in love with johnson, just because jones is rated higher does not mean anything aka jones and mendenhall situation

May 3, 2008  03:51 PM ET

the "Jones/ Mendanhall" from what I read would be like choosing a 92 rated RB over a 94. Not a huge stretch and they got the guy they wanted all along.

May 3, 2008  04:07 PM ET

Felix Jones is a great compliment to Barber. He is very fast and provides a great change of pace. He can return kicks very well too.

May 4, 2008  02:40 PM ET

Lets not forget character. From what I read the coaches at Arkansas had nothing but good things to say about him. Illinois coaches had a list of character flaws attached to his name.

I think the jones pick was the best they could have done if they wanted a running back with that choice for a few reasons. Mendenhall is going to expect to be a starter, and the Cowboys have one of those already in MBIII. Jones is far faster than his 40 at the combine would suggest. He is elusive in ways that Julius Jones only thought about being. He can catch the ball out of the backfield like few other backs can. I really like the Jenkins pickup except for one thing. He didn't have very many picks in his career. Yes he batted down a lot of passes which is what you see in most of his highlights. Batting passes down is great if its third or fourth down, Any other down and the other team still gets another chance to beat you. Intercepting passes though gets your offense back on the field with a chance to score some more point. I wish they would have taken a reciever though on day 1. I don't see next years draft having to many potentially great recievers except maybe Crabtree from Texas Tech.
