DC Sports Nut: Nats, AGAIN??
|

You know, we should take the time to pay attention to our corporate sponsor(s) more often. Yeah, this is about as "random" a blog as you're ever gonna read on here.

The next time you log onto FanNation, take a moment to see the small print on the masthead. You'll see that it says "An SI.com and CNN Digital network site". (It should read "A", not "An". I learned that much from school, about vowels and consonants.)

Anyway, I digress. What I meant to say is, we're all toiling for Time Warner...the lovely people who own Sports Illustrated as well as the Cable News Network. And therein lies the crux of this piece...

How come the SI writers can blog here in FanNation--but we, the lowly peons who contribute so much to FN, aren't afforded the opportunity to have our pieces here placed in SI (let alone mentioned on CNN)??? I mean, there IS untapped talent amongst the FN masses. Trust me on this one, folks; we've all taken the time to read our fellow FNers' material (when we're not writing our own, that is).

Now, I don't need to hear anything about the corporate lawyers @ TW screaming about "intellectual property" or any of that pseudo-legal gobbledygoop. I'm just saying, we who ARE FanNation should be able to reach out beyond these cyberwalls that surround us...and into the spoken and written "real" world.

(I gotta give some credit to Anthony E. for this piece, in a way. When he interviewed me recently, he remarked I should be writing for the D.C. sports media...what with the material I've cranked out on here and all. Truth is, I'm just a frustrated writer at heart. This place has served as a kind of catharsis for me, to distract me from the goings-on in the REAL world that is my life.)

     OK, where was I??

     Ah, yes.

I've read everyone's material around here (well, not EVERYONE'S; you know what I mean), and quite honestly a lot of you put me to shame. So, why shouldn't you have the right to be just as famous as Peter King or those other hacks @ SI??? (And for that matter, why shouldn't I have that right, too??)

How about it, Time Warner?? Hell, we're BETTER than any of those SI and CNN skivosas...at least, I tend to believe that. Let 'em prove me wrong. I dare them.

     Thank you for reading.
