The San Diego Padres are likely the WORST team in baseball right now and shortstop Khalil Greene is certainly not where he was hoped to be at this point offensively. But no doubt even after last night's disgustig, heartsinking, 6-4 loss to the Florida Marlins, I still call the Friars my favorite team and more so, call Greene the greatest player in the world, and smartest and coolest individual in the game.

Last night, Greene hit his first homerun of the season, finally, and had some classic Khalil comments before the game about his early offensive woes. Later, after brushing off the suggestion, seemingly by a San Diego Union Tribune reporterthat  he was pressing because of  "the two-year, $11 million contract he signed last offseason" Greene erased the homerless streak with his first dinger of the year. The quote in today's SD Union Tribune regarding his start is one I'm holding onto with optimism not ony for the most underrated shortstop in the game, but for the Padres as a team overall (this is really all I have left at the moment as a Padres fan):

“Obviously, no one wants to fail,” Greene said. “But who's to say that failure's not a good thing masked in the wisdom that you can't see at that point? I just try to look at the positive.”

So there it is from the greatest player in the world. Wise words, Ill hold onto for San Diego, likely the worst team in baseball this morning.
