It's time to change the NBA's Silhouette

The NBA has stuck with that same old Jerry West silhouette for years, why? Michael Jordan is possibly he most popular professional athlete of all-time so why is the NBA so reluctant to change it. Jerry West was good, years and years after Jordan's first retirement he still is the only athlete in the world it seems that everyone likes. Jordan has way better stats, way more popularity, and has more championships. Sometimes I wonder if David Stern is retarded.

If I follow your thought process, than the Stanley Cup should be renamed Gretsky Cup...

David Stern didnt choose the logo and who is he to change it. I dont see why the logo of a sports league should matter anyway. The NBA is the NBA no matter what the logo is.

If leagues when around changing things all the time there would be no tradition and nothing to be proud of. No sense of history and how the league got to be what it is. The names of trophies and in the case a logo serves as a reminder of where the NBA came from and how it go to be so great. Do you think the Lombardi trophy would hold as much weight if it were named the Walsh Trophy or the Belicheck Trophy?? If the the NFL changed their shield to a new edgy design woudl that help of hurt...it certianly wouldnt help.

Idk, maybe its just me. The game itself changes enough as it is, we dont need to go changing everything, especcially the only things we have left to remind us of the history of the game.

Well Jerry West isn't even in the top 25 most recognizable players in league history, why is he on the cover instead of the most recognizable athlete in all of sports

Changing the logo is irrelevant. It shouldn't be an issue in the first place. Most people don't even think of Jerry West when they see the logo. I also doubt if most people knew that the logo is a silhouette of Jerry.

You change the logo to that of the jumpman, then people would think that the NBA is owned by Nike.

I don't think Adidas (the official outfitter of the NBA) would appreciate that.

good point, but did I say anything about the jump man, besides Jordan is it's own brand I think

No you didn't mention the jumpman but you did mention Jordan. I'm just following the logic of your argument should the NBA change its logo and have Jordan instead (as one of the possible players in lieu of West). Jordan's silhouette, jumpman or not, once recognized is almost always identified with Nike. Jordan has I think his own brand but it makes me wonder why his shirts and shoes are always on display with Nike products. Maybe Jordan's sports company is a subsidiary of Nike.

Jordan inc. is an off shoot of Nike (trust me) and it makes more money per year than the whole of Nike at the time they signed Mike.
If i did think a change was in order(i dont) I think Kareem Abdul-Jabbar's Skyhook would make an interesting silhouette. But it will never happen.

Henri Richard won 11 Stanley Cup's w/ Montreal, and Wayne Gretzky's career stats will make your head spin.I know its a different (better) sport, but the point is there are more impressive legends of sport "that people still like" than Mike.
