This is an additional to my earlier post "How sweet it is..."

The Pitsburgh Pengiuns WILL play the Philadelphia Flyers in the Eastern Confrence Finals. I'm officialy calling it "The Battle of Pennsylvania" I shall be taking bets as to how long the media will start using that phrase ang give me an excuse to sue them...

It was just as I predicted by Game 5 against the Caps. We would beat the Caps, beat whoever came next (The Hab's as it turned out) and then play the Penguins after the thrashed out a series against the Rangers. I didn't see them playing the Rangers, but ah well.

I have more confidence than in the two previous series that the Flyers will win. We all know that the Penguins have a hard time beating the Flyers, the only time when they could was when the Flyers slumped in Feb/March. The Flyers are currently running hot, leading a shock-and-awe campain similar to that of "Operation Rolling Thunder" at the start of the Vietnam War: Hard, Fast and with lots of explosions.

The Pengiuns are not physical enough to match the Flyers and don't have the pace that the Habs had to give the Flyers serious problems. I imagine Coach Stevens will follow a similar game plan, using Hartnell to contain Crosby, and maybe using someone else (Hatcher or Timmo?) to perhaps contain Malkin.

If Biron remains hot, I can't see the Penguins wracking up many points during the series. Also, the Flyers are extremely good at putting the puck in the net, behind Fleury.

I predict (as in my previous post), Flyers in 5, with Crosby dead in 2

Go Penguins!

May 4, 2008  08:13 PM ET

Can't wait for this one. Anyone know when they announce the schedule? The Pens have the superstars, but the Flyers have the depth. Playoff hockey at it's best. Will come down to goaltending (of course).

May 5, 2008  10:44 AM ET

The Flyers have not faced a complete team like the Pens yet. Pittsburgh can roll out 2 lines that would be a number one on any other team, and excellent third line, and a tough, gritty fourth line. They also have the number one PP and PK units. Flyers have the depth? I don't think so!! Pens in 5.

The Pens not physical enough? They don't have the pace of the Habs? Biron better than Fleury? Do you watch hockey? Maybe you will learn about the Penguins in the next week. Penguins in 6

GO PENS!!!!!!!!!

LOL, I'm ordering my Crosby Headstone right now

Go Pens! This should be a good one. This will be a mini-cup series. The east & west of Pennsylvania battling it out.

May 7, 2008  12:45 PM ET

And the only time the Flyers could beat the Pens was when the were struggling at the beginning of the year and the last game when the Flyers accused the Pens of throwing the game. I love how on the one hand Flyers fans want to accuse the Penguins of throwing the las game cause they were scared of them, and then on the other, tout their winning record (5-3) against them as evidence to why they are clearly better. Can't have it both ways. BTW, record over the past two years 11-5 Pens (not that regular season records mean anything this time of year). Just thought I would add insult to injury.

May 7, 2008  01:10 PM ET

You are counting last years record? When the Flyers had the worst record in the league? Ok well the overall record between the Flyers and Pens is about 123-78-31 Flyers! So I guess that means we are better. Oh by the way we have also won the last three playoff series since 1989. Remeber Primeau yeah I think you do. I am shocked that you think the Pens have more depth than the Flyers. All of our lines with the exception of the fourth line would be one on any other team in the league. Your second line consists of Malkin. Our second line consisits of Richards, Lupul, and Umberger. Our third line is Carter, Knuble, and Upshall. Flyers in 6.

May 7, 2008  04:55 PM ET

Also, I distinctly remember many, many, many members of the Pengions fan-base and the media repeatedly reminding the world that the Pens beat the Flyers every game last season. It's a harsh memory to bring up, yes, but it shows that Pens fans are very quick to bring up records. Also, the Flyers have got 10 players with 5+ points. The Penguins only have 7. It's not much of a difference, but the Pens have the least number of 5+ point scorers in the Final 4. Detroit also have 10, Dallas have 8.

I can actualy see myself watching the Penguins fall apart under pressure during this series, remeniscent of one Carey Price of the Montreal Canadiens

May 7, 2008  05:49 PM ET

I think some people will be shocked after game one, and sadly they mostly reside in Philly.

I would be shocked if Philly wins more than one game in this series.

Philly has no idea about what its about to run into.

Besides we want winners to goto the big game, could your city survive another championship collapse?

Philly=perpetual losers

Pitts=winners(except for one superbowl, damn Neil McDonnall)

May 8, 2008  08:55 AM ET

Why are you talking about football on a hockey blog? Who gives a crap about the Steelers winning the super bowl? Is Jerome Bettis gonna get his **** in goal and block shots? I hope we revisit this conversation after the over hyped Pens get a taste of what real hockey is like. The Flyers havent even begun to play their best hockey yet so watch out.

May 9, 2008  10:11 PM ET

Sorry after that pathetic performance, Pens in 4. Hatcher is Malkins b*tch.

May 13, 2008  10:27 PM ET

So let's hear some more about the Flyers' incredible depth? Or are you too busy whining about a couple of lost players and bad calls?

mistatee - RossyB's apparently gone into hiding, unwilling to own up to his misguided predictions of Flyers dominance over the Pens.
