JAYS BLOG
Unbelivable, for the ninth straight game and fifth straight win, the blue jays pitching has been outstanding. Do i really need to go over this again. Even though the jays can't hit for their lives, the pitching has led Toronto to a 5 game winning streak and within a game of returning to the 500 mark. Nothing really new happened in this game however there was one specific event in the ninth that i found interesting. Ozzie Guillen, the white sox eccentric manager, was furious at the home plate umpire for not calling a balk on BJ Ryan. Now Ryan who has used the same set position for his pitches his entire carrer has only been called on a balk twice, once however was just four games ago against the red sox. The definition of a balk, is not really of definition but a set of rules that a pitcher must follow when making his pitch. The problem with Ryan's pitch was that he did not come to a complete stop, just like he hasn't for the past 10 years, when going fron the strech position to the set postition. Now yes one could argue that this is a balk, but when umpires have not called it on him for his entire carrer, you would think the rule of consistency would come into play. Guess Ozzie thought otherwise.
