With Apologies to Michel Therrien...
As some of you may remember, I wrote a blog a couple months back calling for Therrien to be fired if the Pens did not live up to expectations. (http://www.fannation.com/blogs/post/150595) I didn't make it clear in the actual blog, but my expecations were that the Pens were at worst the second best team in the Eastern Conference and they had to make it to the conference finals for Therrien to keep his job.
Well Therrien shut me right up. Now I'll be honest; I still don't agree with some of the decisions he made in switching up lines and playing Whitney on the wing, but with an 8-1 record so far in these playoffs, I'll finally shut my mouth and give credit. The main reason for the old blog is I felt Therrien's group last year underachieved in the post season after having a successful regular season. His playoff winning mentality has been questioned by others besides myself in the past, but it looks like he's put the ghosts behind him.
The Penguins enter the conference finals with home-ice advantage against their cross-state rivals. Not to put much pressure on Therrien and the Pens, but we should win this series and advance to the Stanley Cup Finals. If he makes it to the Finals, the Penguins better sign Therrien long term.
It is true this group might just be so talented that it doesn't matter who is coaching behind the bench, but as of now I'm glad it's Therrien. So with all that, I'll offer up my apologies to Therrien as well as any Therrien fans I irked as a result of my first blog.
LET'S GO PENS!!!
