Fantasy News and Recommendations for selected players for this week's Players Championship
Jim Furyk: News: Missed cut last week. Last two years at Players have resulted in top 10 finishes. Putting has been his nemesis so far this year, but has quietly won over one million dollars.
Rec: he's in my lineup this week. A seasoned pro who should do well with Tiger out of the mix. Straight shooter who usually shows up in the big spot. Been waiting on him all year. This could be his week.
Rory Sabbatini: News: Was gangbusters at the start of the season. Has been inconsistent over the past two months. Very streaky player who, when he's playing well, should be ridden hard.
Rec: Time to dismount. This tournament at this time do not suite his current play.
Zach Johnson: News: Having a mediocre season even though he had a decent Masters showing (20th).
Rec: although his temperment and ball-striking appear to be well-suited to this tournament, he hasn't shown me yet this year that he's going to do anything special this week nor this year. There are worse picks to have on your team this week, however. Could be a sleeper?
Sergio Garcia: News: Tied for 34th last week (Wachovia). Sleep walking through PGA events so far this year on pace toward a very unlike-Sergio year.
Rec: This is a big time tournament and Garcia tends to be a big-event player. I would not be surprised to see him have a good Players.
Aaron Baddley: News: Kind of an up and down (mostly up) and seemingly the darling of the golf insiders to break through this year.
Rec: I'm just not sold yet. At some point, he may break through, but until he does, I'll pass.
Hunter Mahan: News: Another "hot pick." Tied for 12th last week (Wachovia), but has four missed cuts in some pretty big spots this year (Masters, FBR, AT&T, and Shell) as well as missing the cut here last year.
Rec: Again, until I see him in a big spot, there are better options.
Lucas Glover: News: Had a top ten finish at the Verizon two weeks ago, but otherwise it's been a pretty forgettable year for this big Texas banger.
Rec: Doesn't have the game for this tournament on a good year.
Vaughn Taylor: News: Has missed 8 of 13 cuts this year. Missed cut at Players last year. Having a tough year to say the least.
Rec: Not in my lineup, shouldn't be in yours.
John Rollins: News: Nothing notable about his play this year. Just over 300K in earnings so far. Missed cut at Masters (4 of 11 missed cuts overall) and hasn't done much in those tournaments in which he played through the weekend.
Rec: Look elsewhere (and you won't have to look very far).
