It should be obvious to both Penguins and Flyers fans, even the most stubborn of us, that talk is cheap and the arguments pilling up won't solve anything (despite the fact I just agreed to a throwdown). We have to wait for the series to run it's course (Flyers in 5 :-)).

I do however have two questions that have been niggling me for the past few days that I haven't been able to squeeze into arguments that I seem to find at every turn. These can'tbe answered with stats or insults (maybe) and do have a couple of strings attatched if you feel like stepping up to the plate. I know what the Flyers fans will answer so this is mostly for Pens fans.

1. Why did The Penguins loose the last game of the season if they didn't drop it?

No insult meant here, but the Pens were hot leading up to that game, and hot afterwards. Was this just a little twitch the Pens had? Or was it something else. I don't want demands for bloo, I just want some nice hockey analysis.

2. Why do Flyers fans have the stigma attatched to them that they are "Knuckle-Draggers" and "Mutants"?

This has some strings attatched. In order to answer them properly, you can't use quotes you made up (that would be like dropping to our level wouldn't it? [Sarcasm implied by the way]). I wan't to see links to websites and maybe Youtube Videos. And do not show me the F*** Ovechkin Video on YouTube, I've seen it and it's what I call support. Also, the famous Washington Post article doesn't count either because that was ridiculed into moot.

So, Pens Fans - the Gauntlet has been thrown down. I want your answers on my desk in 2 hours.

Penguins tanked in order to play Ottawa then the NYR. It was beautiful strategy and has gotten them the easiest road to the Finals in the East.

May 8, 2008  04:49 PM ET

Its not Flyers fans who have the stigma, its all Philadelphia sports fans. They boo Santa Claus, they need their own courtroom inside their stadium because of all the fights and violence at their NFL games in the stands, and they are brutally ruthless when it comes to showering their own hometown teams with boos at virtually every opportunity. Plus, you eat enough cheesesteaks and your bellies get so big they drag the ground forcing their knuckles down along the ground.

May 8, 2008  05:00 PM ET

I'm so tired of the Santa Claus thing. I guess everyone who brings this up would cheer for an obviously drunk Santa Claus stumbling onto a field with his clothing askew. How's that for classless?
I'm proud that Philadelphia is a city that won't stand for bad play, especially when it's our hard earned bucks helping to keep franchises alive and give them new stadiums. So, yes, we're going to boo our players when they give up before the game is over, yes, we're going to boo our superstars who act like primadonnas, and yes, we're going to boo visiting players like Divesby who aren't content with their own talent and seem to need even more advantages to feel like big men.

its bettman's dream(pens in the finals) vs bettman's nightmare(flyers in the finals).. who will the refs favor????

May 8, 2008  05:11 PM ET

I'm SO glad you kept the Mike Wise column out of this (he stated sarcastically).
"Divesby"?? Hey, THERE'S a new one; think that one up YOURSELF, or did you have help??
The Santa Claus footage EXISTS. You can not deny this.
Oh, and the Pens win in 7 (which means, with my luck, they'll win in 6). ANYTHING, to shut up these Flyers fans for the summer...LMFAO
GO CAPS!!! Alex IS your MVP...live with it!!!

May 8, 2008  05:30 PM ET

With the way he flails his arms when going down, "DIVESBY" should try out for the Olympic Swim Team. And by the way, DC Sports Nut, the Caps are out of the playoffs. Not sure if you've realized that yet....

May 8, 2008  06:09 PM ET

Divesby will be diving into the arms of teammates in celebration as his team advances to the Stanley Cup Finals. There is a good reason it would be a nightmare for the commish if Philly won-no superstars, bad fans, they dont play classic offense that is fun to watch, plus your goalie looks like a caveman. Go Pens!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

May 8, 2008  07:21 PM ET

RossyB - A better question than your first, and one that I haven't seen anyone but Baun-ded attempt to answer is, why, if the Pens were TRYING to tank that game, were your mighty Flyers only able to put ONE puck in the net, not counting the empty netter?

May 8, 2008  11:31 PM ET

I find it odd that flyer fans seem to make two mutually exclusive arguments in the same breath at every turn - that the flyers won the regular season match-up so have the edge; and that pittsburgh purposely threw the last game (essentially a close one goal game with an empty-netter shots 21/20). If then pens threw the last game then the season edge of 5-3 is meaningless, no?

It doesn't take a rocket scientist. Teams of various sports often mail in the last meaningless game of a season when they have a play-off berth assured. Their start sat out to rest a recently recovered injury and their focus was on the upcoming playoffs, a proposition supported by their near-perfect run so far.

My question to Flyer fans is why is Timonen so afraid of playing against Crosby and Malkin that he'd fake an injury to avoid the series? Enquiring minds want to know...

My question to Flyers Fans: Why is Timonen so afraid of facing crosby that he's willing to fake an injury to avoid the humiliation. No insult intended, just that inquiring minds want to know...

May 9, 2008  08:19 AM ET

Thank God this series kicks off tonight. At least tomorrow we'll have some actual material to base this discussion on. Although I'm sure even if Crosby gets run over by a Zamboni driven by Timonen, some whining Flyers fans will accuse him of diving and crying about it.

*Chuckle*
Suggesting someone is faking an injury is disgusting! Suggesting a team tanked a game is just regular hockey banter but asking why Timmo is faking it?!?!? That is LOW. I hope Crosby breaks his arm - there, I said it.

May 9, 2008  10:13 PM ET

Sad just sad, Pens in 4. Hatcher is Malkins b*tch.

May 9, 2008  10:18 PM ET

Breaks Timonen's arm, you mean?
Surely you can come up with something better than "you're mother sleeps with sheep." It doesn't even make sense on it's own merits. You could've at least said a horse or something. I guess you're a man of as few words as well as thoughts.

This series will be called chasing the penguins cause it sure looked like that's what the flyers were doing through most of the game. I guess losing the top defense-man really was the blow everyone said it would be. This will be a short series if the flyers don't pick it up a little.

and after all the whining about the refs and crosby's supposed diving what's you're take on the blatant dive by your man toward the end of the game. stay classy philadelphia...

Have you ever heard of sarcasm Rossy?

By the way, are you going to ignore my earlier question to you "that I want answered"?

Because after last night, it certainly doesn't look like the Penguins are afraid of your big bad Flyers.

And nothing showed it more than Malkin's goal after that vicious (but legal) hit. Scott Burnside over at ESPN couldn't have put it any better "That Malkin blast, his second of the night was a middle-finger salute to the Flyers..."

May 12, 2008  08:10 AM ET

Fake a blood clot? Fake an injury? C'mon, I'm obviously a Pens' fan but for someone to write that he's faking to not face another player is low class! If part of the blood clot breaks lose then it becomes life threatening. Is he faking that, too? Show some class.

As for everybody jumping on the "Cindy" and "Diversby" comments...try to be original. The kid's name is Sidney Crosby. Repeating someone else's stupidity is tiresome to read. And just shows a whole lot of jealousy. If he was on YOUR team what would you be calling him? Franchise player.

May 12, 2008  08:57 AM ET

Therrien. Maybe I'm wrong, but I viewed the Timmo faking comment as an attempt at sarcasm in response to the whole tanking debate.

And just an observation, Flyers fans are awfully quiet this morning.

May 12, 2008  11:38 AM ET

perfect360....if it was sarcasm....I apologize. Thanks for the heads up!

RossyB - You've been awfully quiet since Friday night.

Still clinging to your "Penguins tanked the game to dodge the Flyers in the 1st round" theory? Or has your question been answered (or made irrelevant) by 2 Flyers losses?
