LIbertadores Cup - Round of 16 Review

Well, with the Round-of-16 in the books we're looking at some interesting matchups.

But first let's recap this week's games.

Fluminense 1 x 0 Atl. Nacional - Fluminense had earned a solid victory away (2-1) and played with ease and tranquility, Atl. Nacional did not have enough to overcome that deficit. My Prediction was right!!

Atlas 2 x 2 Lanus - Another team who earned an away win (1-0) had to play it safe, and for most of the game they did, though they took a scare at the end. My Prediction was right!!

Estudiantes 2 x 1 LDU - LDU had won at home (1X0) but were going to play in Argentina, and like I said, suffered intense pressure. However they got a precious away goal and got through on that. My Prediction was right again!!!

Cruzeiro 1 x 2 Boca Juniors - We all knew it. Though playing at home and with support of a packed Mineirao, Cruzeiro just wasnt match for Boca. I was right again!!!!!

Flamengo 0 x 3 America - Two words: Historic failure. That is how people in Rio are viewing this, while in Mexico? Historic comeback. I was wrong, who'd seen it coming?!

Sao Paulo 2 x 0 Nacional - Adriano and Dagoberto scored, easier than I thought. Def. Brazilian champs go on through. I called it!!!

Santos 2 x Cucuta - Santos won. Easy. Next. I was right!!!

River Plate 2 x 2 San Lorenzo - For whoever watched it....Epic and Historic....literally.....San Lorenzo came back to tie it with 2 men down playing at Monumental. Soccer at its best. Surprised me!! I had picked RP.

Well My Prediction: 6-2. Not bad, how was yours?

Stay tuned for next week's matchup preview.

Club America!

Yes, America all the way! Historic indeed! That is why it's so big for me! America finished in last place of the Mexican tourney, and to get this win 3-0 to advance when it pretty much seemed like it was going to be another catastrophe after going down 4-2 at home.

I saw Atlas-Lanus and Flamengo-America. I was impressed by Club America, considering their league form. Guess they were saving it for the Copa ;-)

So far Liga de Quito is the surprise team

Yeah, them too.

Not saying America is a surprise team.

Not to be pedantic, but shouldn't it be either "Copa Libertadores" or "Liberators' Cup"? Spanglish is fun but there's something to be said for going whole-hog one way or the other, hehe.

Since I can't in good conscience support Club America, I'll root for Atlas since my favorite Mexican team isn't in it.
