I think that next season the Big 12 will be the second most powerful confrence in all of college football behind of the SEC of course, just look at their conference top to bottom

  • Texas will be great as usual
  • Oklahoma is getting back a ton of talent
  • Texas Tech has a legitimate shot at taking home a BCS bowl trophy at the end of the season
  • Texas A&M will go to a mid level bowl
  • Nebraska won't be great this year, but is the team of the future in the Big 12, but will win 6 or 7 games
  • Kansas State QB is a Jamarcus Russell clone, will win at least 7 games
  • Kansas is getting back  almost all of their talent form an Orange Bowl winning team
  • Missouri will be a top 10 team with Chase Daniels back and will go to a BCS bowl
  • Oki State consistently wins 6 or 7 games every year

I think all of these teams will make it to a bowl game, While in the PAC 10 they have 4 major powers

  • USC, who is getting 1 O-linemen back (including TE), losing their starting DE, DT, OLB, RB, and QB
  • Cal, who lost one of their WR combos ever and Justen Forrset, these 3 made up most of Cals offense
  • Oregon, Well we all saw what they can do without Dennis Dixson last season
  • Arizona State- lost Rudy Carpender and their schedule isn't quite as friendly this year as last

This year the Big 12 will be by far the better conference and if you need anymore convincing than that just read the article again because I'm tired of witting.

Nothing to say Pac 10 fans, normaly you guys are really easy to erk

May 10, 2008  06:59 PM ET

I think people are getting used to you. It's the weekend right now anyways, so people are out.

I'm starting to come around on the Big 12. A few years ago I did not like how OU only had to play Texas, but now their conference depth is increasing and doing well. The Big 12 north still kinda bites, but as long as Mizzou and Kansas can keep up their winning and Nebraska can become a contender, than you have yourself a conference. And if Iowa state can stop somebody, then you have four very good teams just in the north alone. I'm too used to the Big 12 north sucking though, so I don't think it'll happen.

May 12, 2008  01:08 PM ET

"Oregon, Well we all saw what they can do without Dennis Dixson last season"
1. It's DIXON
2.Justin Roper,Oregon's FORTH string, freshman QB had a 151.7 QB rating with four TD's and 0 INT's in the Sun Bowl. He WILL NOT be Oregon's starting QB come August. Nate Costa should have the starting job this year and boy what a set of wheels on this kid!
3. LaGarrette Blount and a healthy Jeremiah Johnson will more than make up for the loss of J.Stew in the backfield.

The Big Twelve "IS" better than the Pac-10
I would only argue the "IS". I don't think the Big 12 was as tough 07-08 as the Pac-10. We can only guess what next year will bring.

May 12, 2008  05:19 PM ET

Well now that spring training is over we have had a great look at the talent that each team has and as you can see the teams in the Pac 10 that are always good are rebuilding, while the Big 10's good teams got all of there talent back, what you just said is another way of saying I know your right, I'm just gonna try to play it off

May 12, 2008  08:19 PM ET

Admit your right? I admit nothing Sir! While the argument my be a semantic, the fact remains we don't know where the surprises will come from this season.
As for "Pac 10 that are always good are rebuilding, while the Big 10's( were talking Big12) good teams got all of there talent back", are you suggesting that JC transfers and Freshman are automatically inferior to returning players? I wouldn't go to Vegas with that strategy

May 13, 2008  02:52 PM ET

ASU didn't lose Rudy Carpenter. he's having thumb surgery so he'll be out a couple months, but he's a senior this year and will be their starter.

May 14, 2008  10:53 AM ET

I visisted some ASU site and he wasn't on the roster

May 14, 2008  04:26 PM ET

I know **** about collage baseball so I learned something

May 14, 2008  05:02 PM ET

i agree the Pac 10 is vastly overrated

May 15, 2008  03:27 PM ET

Like the TD we just had, your arguments are poor.

Zero facts to back anything up...

"Texas will be great as usual" How? That is just a statement.

As a HS Sophomore, you better get ready to do more research, because if your Thesis paper is anything like your Blog posts, you might be re-doing your Junior year. Oh, and there is no Red-Shirting in HS Football!

May 15, 2008  06:13 PM ET

Texas will be great because
1. colt Mccoy is a great QB
2. there defense is the best it's been since '05
3. They are very deep

Your obviously just throwing a fit because your not getting your way..........
Take that elsewhere.... No one wants to listen to you cry about a throwdown you think you should of won. So don't comment on my blog until your willing to put forth some evidence to back yourself up.......

"Thesis paper is anything like your Blog posts, you might be re-doing your Junior year. "
Moron, I make A's and B's I'm not worried about any thesis paper, you don't like whats one here look it up for yourself it will completly back up what i said.

May 15, 2008  07:50 PM ET

I am not throwing a fit. I just am questioning your Blog and the "facts" listed on it. Your "facts" on this Blog are similar to those found on our TD.

1. How is McCoy a great QB? I could say that about anyone.
2. How is THEIR (that is how you use that word) Defense is good?
3. How are they deep? Do they play their games below sea level? Is their stadium in a cave?

Do you see my point? Do you see where I am going with this?

Here are things you can point out as FACTS...

While the preseason rankings have five Big 12 teams to the Pac-10's three in the top 25. OU should be the only consistant team. They have a good schedule at home, boosted the O-Line and didn't lose many starters on either side of the ball.

Mizzou is in the top 10, but has a light schedule; they don't play Tech, A&M or OU. Daniel will be good

Texas has McCoy returning and is looking for a RB and WR replacements. They have a decent schedule. They will fight OU for the South title.

KU is looking for help at RB, O-line and Secondary. They have a tough schedule playing S. FLA and OU on the road and Tech and Texas at home.

As for the Pac-10...

USC is returning Mark Sanchez, who started three games when JDB was out. They have 4 different RB's who can handle the workload, most of whom could start on most programs. Their LB core is excellent, with Maualuga, Brian Cushing returning. They also play Ohio St. in their 2nd game of the season.

ASU is adding more depth to the playbook with more Spread Offense passing threats. Oh, Carpenter is coming back. Erickson is a good coach and has proven he can win. ASU was 10-3 in his first year. Their first test is with Georgia at home.

Oregon has a tough schedule playing at Purdue, USC, ASU and Cal. LeGarrett Blount is a big RB who will shock many people this year. Jeremiah Johnson is back and so is Jaison Williams at WR. The Ducks D will be better this year. They have a strong se condary with TJ Ward, Patrick Chung and returning Pac 10 sack leader, DE Nick Reed. Their only question will be at QB.

Cal will struggle with their QB dilemma and replacing the RB and WR positions. They have a decent schedule with Mich. St., Maryland and Colorado St. on the non-conference games.

UW may surprise people with the Jake Locker back at QB. He is mobile and has decent targets to throw to in Anthony Russo, Marcel Reese returning. UW has a brutal early non-conference schedule with Oregon, BYU, and Oklahoma in the first three weeks.

See how easy that is? Put in a little effort man!

I will seriously question the school systems in LA, based on your verbal skills. I don't care if you claim to "make A's and B's." What you post here is nowhere near anything more than a Seventh Grade level. We live in America. We speak English in America. Act like it.

May 15, 2008  10:18 PM ET

"While the preseason rankings have five Big 12 teams to the Pac-10's three in the top 25"
What preseason rankings are out?

"USC is returning Mark Sanchez, who started three games when JDB was out"
And had 7 int's

"They have 4 different RB's who can handle the workload"
How do you know? they never had to before...
Joe Mcknight is a Reggie Bush like back who only works as a compliment to a big back...
C,J. Gable had 12 caries last season so he lacks experience...

You say that there are 4 capable RB's on USC's roster who can carry the load , workload, but in fact only 2 returning USC RB's had more than 20 carries last season, none had more than 80 so USC is talented, but inexperienced at RB.

"Their LB core is excellent, with Maualuga, Brian Cushing returning."
But USC lost possibly the best LB in school history in Keith rivers....

"They also play Ohio St. in their 2nd game of the season. "
Which will either cost USC there season or OSU's there's

I will also say that ASU was a product of the system last season.... Look at the beginning of there season

San Jose State W
Colorado W
San Diego State W
Oregon State W
at Stanford W
at Washington State W
Washington W
No. 21 California W
at No. 5 Oregon L
at UCLA W
No. 11 USC L
Arizona W
No. 19 Texas L

1-3 against top 25 team, and the one top 25 team they beat ended up 6-6 boy is that not the mark of a great team

Until this team shows me that they have the maturity to beat great teams I will refuse to e impressed with them because this year there schedule isn't quite as kind.......
This year they have UGA at home, @Oregon State, @ Cal, Oregon at home, UCLA at home, and @ USC. That's Much more difficult than last years schedule.

"Oregon has a tough schedule playing at Purdue, USC, ASU and Cal."
Which will be rough on a team that lost its team leaders, Dennis Dixson and Jonathan Stewart.

"LeGarrett Blount is a big RB who will shock many people this year"
The guy had 12 TD's on a Junior College team, how good could he be.

"UW may surprise people with the Jake Locker back at QB"
With a 47% completion percentage and 14 int's to go with his 14 TD's I don't think I'd want him back.

"See how easy that is? Put in a little effort man!"

Is that good enough?

"We speak English in America."
Not in Los Angeles.

May 16, 2008  03:47 PM ET

That is much better. You did reasearch and argued against what I said. Give people facts and you gain crediblility...Question others facts and it makes you look even better.

I do know that LA is Louisiana, not Los Angeles, but thanks for the vote of confidence. Allthough, I bet they don't speak English often enough in Los Angeles...

BTW- LeGarett Blount will be a lot better than people think. He was one of the top JC prospects in the country and had 80+ yds on 7 carries in Oregon's spring game. There was a good article on him on ESPN.com a couple of weeks ago.

May 16, 2008  11:07 PM ET

The LA thing was a joke.

May 17, 2008  01:13 PM ET

We won't know how good the teams are until the season starts. What we learned from last year was that the OOC schedule for the SEC consists of the most DIV II opponents compared to the other conferences. How good is the SEC? LSU would not have beaten USC or a healthy Oregon in the National Title Game last year. Florida lost to a mediocre Michigan team and powerhouse Auburn lost at home to overrated USF. Let's not forget #2 Tennessee getting wacked by Cal. The game is played for a reason and the best recruits come from California.

May 17, 2008  02:09 PM ET

"SEC consists of the most DIV II opponents compared to the other conferences"
LSU played VT, Alabama Played FSU, Mississippi State played WVU, UGA played Oki State, Auburn played KSU and South Florida, UT played Cal, Kentucky played Louisville, The SEC plays some tough teams, you are just to stupid to realize it.

"LSU would not have beaten USC or a healthy Oregon in the National Title Game last year" Oregon was a one man team, that showed last year because once Dennis Dixson went down what happened Oregon lost three strait.
Also I'm tired of hearing how USC was so beat up, well if you can get that beat up from that weak schedule you don't deserve a national title, it's not like LSU had it's share of injuries which they did...
Matt Flynn played the whole season with a sprained ankle and a hurt throwing should but he battled through it, glen Dorsey Battled back spasms and and hurt kneee the almost the entire season, Early Doucet was hurt in the VT game and missed most of the season, Darry Beck with was hurt alot of the season, even Jacob Hester battled back problems last year also LSU was missing Charles Alexanader and Ricky Jean Francis the whole regular season, but no you as a person with a Pac 10 bias are just gonna assume that LSU was perfectly healthy all year, you sir are an idiot.
"Let's not forget #2 Tennessee getting wacked by Cal. "
And Cal got wacked by UT the year before even worse.
"The game is played for a reason and the best recruits come from California."
The best recruits come from Texas.

And Florida

May 20, 2008  10:58 PM ET

CALI HAS MORE ATHLETES IN THE NFL THAN ANY OTHER STATE. LOOK IT UP BIAAATCH. MAKE SURE YOU CAN READ FIRST.

May 21, 2008  05:43 AM ET

Yes Oregon lost three consecutive games without Dixon. The fact is the backup Quarterback was also injured, along with the backup's, backup. With a freshman q.b. and a little practice time Oregon had no problem dismantling a team that beat Auburn at home in it's bowl game. Let's also not forget the starting running back Oregon lost along with the team's top two receivers. LSU backed into the national title game. Congrats on losing those close games though. Arkansas looked great against Missouri in it's bowl game. Didn't Arkansas lose to Auburn? I could argue that the Big-12 is better than the SEC. Take away the two gimme Div II opponents the SEC teams schedule and you probably don't see Alabama and Arkansas in bowl games. I'm pretty sure this speaks for itself. http://www.usatoday.com/sports/football/nfl/draft-history-graphic.htm
