Everyone wanted to talk about Johnny Cueto,Jay Bruce,and Joey Votto.But you forgot someone;Edinson Volquez.

Aquired during the offseason from the Texas Rangers,Volquez has made a tremendous impact on Cincinnati's staff.He was thought very highly of by the reds,they were even willing to deal the feel good story,talented,and former #1 pick of the Tampa Bay Devil Rays;Josh Hamilton.Though Hamilton has enjoyed much success with the Rangers this year the reds have gotten what they've wanted,and more,out of Volquez.

Born July 3rd,1983,and all of 25 years old,from Santo Domingo,D.R.He's 6'1 and 190 pounds,and can throw into the mid 90's with consistency.If he has struggled in any aspect of pitching,it has been that his pitch count takes a toll early,and has 24 BB's in 42 innings.But he more than makes up for it,and should soon begin to gain more control.

Texas has always been on the lookout for pitching considering they never have it.He was signed by the rangers in 2001 as an amateur free agent.He was one of the top prospects in the Texas system but the Rangers really must have liked what they saw in Josh hamilton(and they were right).He went 0-4 his first season of 2005,1-6 in '06,2-1 in '07,and so far is 5-1 in '08.This being his first year in Cincinnati,he has shown incredible talent.

Check out these stats,they may boggle your mind;

So far in '08:

W-L:5-1

Whip:1.228

ERA:1.06

42 innings pitched

7 starts

52 strike outs

(but then again those 24 BB's)

and 1 HR given up

And possibly the most impressive:he has given up more than 1 run once;he gave up 2 in a game,that's it.

This righty has quite the future with the reds organization,the comparisons are flying in,welcome to the big-time Edinson Volquez.
