Coaching Square

Well the playoffs are in full swing in the NBA yet much of the talk going on is about the coaching vaccancies, and other rumors. This is shaping up to be an interesting offseason for coaches.Avery Johnson gets fired two years after being named coach of the year, and getting his team to the finals, and one year removed from one of the best records in NBA history.Mark Cuban is a very impatient man,and I guess he won't stand for failure.

Rick Carlisle has also agreed to become the Dallas Mavericks coach, which I don't think is a drop from Johnson.Carlisle did a very nice job with Indiana for several years. And just remember that Johnson wanted to keep Devan Harris(so in other words it was not his idea to get J-Kidd,so Dallas.......doesn't seem worth those players and draft picks now does it?

But the big news today:Mike D'antoni has signed a contract with the New York Knicks(a MAJOR improvement at the head coaching spot)for 4 years and 24 million dollars.6 million a year!Whoa. He was also being mentioned for the Chicago job where Scott Skiles was fired mid-season because of his inability to lead the team to what was expected of them.

So at this point I imagine the Bulls(come on bulls)and the Suns are in the race for Avery Johnson, with anyone else being a consolation prize.Johnson can surely do a lot for either team.

Oh yeah...Brown to Bobcats!

good blog, though Bobcats got the best coach:)
