As we know, the Blazers have the #1 pick, and as said today, they're going to take Greg Oden with that pick. Also, the Supersonics are going to take uber-swingman Kevin Durant with the #2. So what does that leave #3 Atlanta to do? Here are some possibilities:
1. Mike Conley Jr.
Right now, the Hawks don't have an upper half starting point guard. At the point, they've got vets Tyronne Lue, Speed Claxton and Anthony Johnson. None of those guys can lead a playoff contending team. Conley can come in and jumpstart the Hawks. He would be able to run the floor with Josh Smith and Josh Childress, and put some more enthusiasm into the Hawks lineup.
2. Brandan Wright
Another versatile big man? Yup. Forwards, forwards and more forwards is GM Knights plan. He would be a great addition to any team, and is likely the 3rd best player overall in the draft. He may also let Atlanta deal some other forwards for a point guard.
3. Corey Brewer
The gator could be another forward that fits into the grand plan of forwards. He posses more than his fair helping in potential, and with quickness all over the court, he'd be a good pick.
4. TRADE!
Since he does posses the #11 pick also, where Acie Law should still be available, Billy Knight could choose to trade the #3 pick to a team in need of a big forward or scoring forward in exchange for a point guard. He could trade with the Bulls for Duhon, since the Bulls need a low post threat that can score.
You just never know what may happen on a draft day, but you know that a GM's job hangs in the balance each year. This year, it's Knight. A bad draft, and a bad offseason, and Knight could be gone faster than Billy Donovan.
