This season has been the year of the underdog for baseball as we have seen many surprises for both teams and players.
First off the Tigers.Detroit was suppose to be a championship contender after a good season last year and making the biggest move of the offseason in trading for Willis and Cabrera.Cabrera has not found his swing yet and is hitting .252 with only 6 homeruns and 22 rbi's.Also Willis is not even playing anymore after Hyperextending his knee. Not to mention while he was playing he had an era of 7.22 with 9 walks.Detrot seems to be on the right track now but behing in fourth place and having only 16 wins is still a big surprise.
Second the Florida Marlins. The Marlins were thought to finish in the bottom of the N.L. East but some how are 22-14 and leading the divison. The thought to be washed up Mark Hendrickson is now 5-1 with a 3.56 era leading the team as there ace. Also they swept the Brewers and Dan Uggla is once again the second baseman everyone thought he would be.Whats surprising is the Marlins are winning with little fan support and mostly no-name young players like there 2004 and 1997 world sereies teams they may make history once again.
Another big surprise is the Tampa Bay Rays.Like Florida the Rays have almost no big name player yet there still second in there divison and fighting for a playoff spot.Dioner Navarro is on fire hitting .330 with 10 rbi's and Troy Percival has showed that hes not the washed up pitcher people tought he was.Could this be the Rays and Marlins year,if so it would be a great surprise and hopefully keep both teams where they are.
Zack Greinke and Cliff Lee have also been big surprised.Lee was a cancer surviver and sent down to the minors last year yet this year he has an era or .81 and is 6-0.On the other hand Greinke is leading the Royals with a 1.8 era after an average season last year. Both guys have gone through a lot and were big surprises this season.
