Twins Blog '08, Week 6 Recap

Neshek out for the season. Scott Baker on the 15 day DL. Ouch. Nick Punto on 15 day DL. Yawn. OK, I dog Punto, and this year he isn't even threatening to set a new .150 BA "Punto line." In fact, in 49 AB's this season, he has an almost not vomit-worthy line of .265/.314/.347.

Anyway, a 3-3 week, with one win against the White Sox on the road and two against the Red Sox at home. The RS/RA line was 37/32, so that .500 W/L record pretty much makes sense. But if the truth be told, the starters really didn't pitch that well this week. Pitching game scores (see last weeks blog post for an explanation) for the week include a best 67 for Hernandez on Wednesday and quickly dropping off to an average 51 for Slowey, a below average 45 for Perkins, 44 for Blackburn on Tuesday, a 42 for Blackburn on Sunday, and an abysmal 24 for Bonser on Friday. The pen wasn't a whole lot better, with 34 baserunners allowed in 16 IP, while only striking out 9 and giving up 2 HR's.

The week's hitting numbers were surprising bad, considering the offense averaged 6 runs per game. The team line was .259/.320/.385. Yes, Gomez did hit for the cycle, but would somebody please remind him that all that speed at the top of the order doesn't do much good with an OBP of .300. I mean 5 walks and 35 K's?

The week ahead means one more against Boston, then three against Toronto and three on the road against Colorado. That is six games against two pretty bad teams. Would another five win week be out of the question? Shoot, let's say 5-2 for the week.
