Take a look at these two rankings one from scout.com and the other from ESPN....
Scout.com:
Immediate turnaround not Likely...
13. New York Jets- "The Jets spent some money in the offseason to fix their offensive line, but they still have a major question mark at quarterback. We expect Chad Pennington to win the job initially, then get benched shortly thereafter like last year. Unstable quarterback situations never breed winning."
Yes, there is still concern for QB but, then again when hasn't there? I can't remember the last time. Even with the unstable QB situation as I have said in the past the Jets also had last year's bad season because of the offensive line as well as problems with the defense. The offensive line was letting the defense get to the QB too quickly thus forcing some bad plays and sacks and whatever else happened.
Of course it was also the QB's fault too but, that is beside the point. The defensive line also didn't help much giving up points like crazy and could seem to bring pressure on the quarterback. However bringinnning in all these offseason and draft players the Jets have improved their chances immensely even with the unstable QB situation. I'd put the Jets in the catagory of: Some Talent, possible Playoff Contenders.
Now here is a look at ESPN's Take:
#21 - Jets 4-12-0 - An offseason spending spree upgraded the roster without answering the Jets' most pressing question: Do they have the right QB?
Of course how did I know ESPN was going to mention QB? Look it is the same thing here as up there, the Jets had many other pressing problems besides quarterback last year... it was a combination of many things. But, now the thing is they have more options this year, they can bring on more heat at TE, something more for WR with Marcus Henry and the healthy return of Chansi Stuckey -- Stuckey was said to be a good WR, with great hands and speed in last year's Preseason before his injury, keep an eye on that --
On defense the Jets have Gholston who can help with the pass rush and get to the QB, the offensive line is better because there is more protection for the QB with Alan Faneca. At RB, the Jets have Danny Woodhead (possibly). He may not be tall but, this boy can run like hell, Thomas Jones - he is still one of the more elite backs in the league, Jesse Chatman, not all that but, still a good back who can put up numbers.
There are also returns of players like Justin Miller who is a great KR man... Miller and Washington could be a dangerous duo for opposing teams. Cornerback - Revis is turning out to be great, Lowery has definate potential... There are so many things that people are overlooking. Yes, I will not deny the QB situation is unstable but, what I will say is that with all these great additions they help the team which of course can help the QB.... In the end it will all work out it needs time.
Brian Bassett had some of the same thoughts as me here he said, "It might be that the Jets are stuck with two questionable quarterbacks, but with a better line and more targets in the passing game, the offense and the quarterbacking could be substantially better in 2008."
See, it is not just about the quarterback, it is more than that... its about the team.
