I'm shocked at you Big 10 Football Group.  You all should be ashamed of yourselves.

How in the world is Rich Rodriguez under the most pressure?  Rodriguez could have a sub .500 year and Michigan fans would be happy...I'll wait for Ohio State fans collective laugh to end....and we're good?  Ok, let's continue then shall we?

Rich Rodriguez has absolutely no expectations this year....no one is expecting Michigan to compete for anything this year.  All the other coaches that I mentioned in that poll have far greater pressure on them.   I want to take a look at each coach individually.

First up is Ron Zook.  He has to prove that last year wasn't just some gigantic fluke...he needs a top four finish in the conference.  I think of all the coaches he is under the most pressure.

Next up I'll talk about Jim Tressel.  He isn't under any inner conference pressure.  But, can you imagine the amount of stress he's under nationally?  He needs to win a National Title soon...because we're getting close to making National Title games not being good enough.

Now we'll talk about Joe Paterno.  JoeGrandPa he needs to continue winning..and being at the top of the conference.  He's been doing a pretty good job..but the BCS expectations are knocking.  Will he be able to get out of his rocking chair quick enough to answer the door?

Lastly I want to talk about the coach of my favorite Big 10 team, Bret Bielema.  He's got plenty of pressure coming from the state of Wisconsin.  Two years ago the Badgers fell victim to a BCS rule that only two teams per conference can go to a BCS game.  Last year this team fell victim to injuries and suspensions.  This year...a lot of Badger fans are hoping for a repeat of year one..this time with a BCS ending.

Do you agree..disagree? Leave thoughts and comments...

I agree on the Michigan assessment, but you over looked MSU (as hard as it is to say that, Michigan fan). They really could be considered a "dark horse" candidate in the Big-Ten. Dantonio seems to be taking the right steps in getting that program stabilized and may be finally getting the program back on tract. The Bucknuts should win the conference but the way things have gone lately in the conference OSU may get ambushed along the way to ruin things for them in "08".

As far as I know, JoPa is the only 1 with anyone calling for hisr job.
Lets face it - the coaches days are numbered in more ways than 1. Pretty soon his head won't support the weight of his glasses.

Tressel - he barely showed emotion when he lost to Illinois. At this point he's only hanging around as coach because he doesn't want to be governor or senator.

Zook - going from 2 wins to the Rose Bowl has bought him plenty of time to finish rebuilding.

RR - doesn't even need to be close to .500 He could get 4 wins and everyone would be saying he just needs more time. His expectations are so low if he goes .500 they will be singing his praises.

Bielema - well, you know my comment...
Third.

I agree with you Airborne...Michigan State is a definite darkhorse to win the conference..but Dantonio is under absolutely no pressure this year no one is expecting besides those fans in East Lansing.

Prove It I see your point about Tressel but my thinking is a lot of his pressure is coming from internal forces

Badger, when it comes to Tressel, unless you mean inside HIMSELF, I'd have to disagree. As long as he keeps winning the conference and beating TSUN, the majority of us are ecstatic. Anything beyond that is gravy...

Perhaps "pressure" is the wrong word for DickRod-- I think it's more scrutiny than pressure. He's in the press almost every day. And for those of us outside of TSUN, it's more of a morbid curiosity. "I'm disgusted and repulsed and yet... I can't look away."

:)

buck i girl....I think the scrutiny leads to pressure...the fact that he's talked about so much puts pressure on him to have immediate success because I think he wants to put everything with WVU behind him..and having initial failure at Michigan is going to do nothing to put everything with WVU behind him.

I'll agree with you about Jim Tressel since you're a Buckeye fan so I'll take your word

Lastly I really like the thing with Michigan calling it TSUN...I'm kinda wanting to try that with Minnesota calling it TSOW(the state out west) I'll completely forget about it though so oh well

May 14, 2008  08:46 PM ET

I meant having initial failure at Michigan is going to do nothing to put everything with WVU behind him

May 14, 2008  09:42 PM ET

$4 Million is about the only thing that will put WVU behind him.

...and C'mon - Wisconsin can do better than Minnesota as a rival. Perhaps if you were to begin slandering PSU - they really need someone to reciprocate rival status (it's a cat in scarf - there's a lot there to build on).

Wait... AE isn't back yet, is he?

Prove It...I personally have nothing against Penn State...their head coach is like a grandpa to everyone how can you be rivals with that?

Plus I kinda like the geographic proximity of Mn...I could go into that state anytime I want unlike Pa

"I personally have nothing against Penn State"

That's the beauty of a Rivalry. It is a guilt free excuse to hate someone for no more reason than their geographic background. As best as I can recall, I was in my mid 20s before I met someone from Michigan, my late 20s before I stepped foot in the state (ironic - sine I had visited 35 or so states before I could drive). It didn't matter - I hated them.

There was no reason other than they were my rival (or at least no reason until I lived in Detroit for a couple of years - Detroit's motto should be "It's everything you've heard and less".
