I was thinking of something special we could do, for the celebration of our 300th member, which is inching closer every day. So I got this nutty idea, and I thought I'd put it out there - and would like to hear your feedback.
How about a Throwdown Tourney? Not just an ordinary tourney though - One that would be unique and extraordinary, as only the Babes Beer & Sports Group (The Gold Standard in Fannation Babe Fan Groups) could make happen.
From past experiences, we know that TD's about chicks or beer get deleted by the Mods. So we will have to play by their rules (ie Make the TD about sports) but add our own unique BB&S twist to it. Here's what I'm thinking.
Two Brackets - A beer bracket and a babes bracket.
We would have regular sports influenced topics - so the Mods won't delete the TD. Your argument would be like a normal TD argument - except your last sentence of the argument would actually be your beer/babe argument.
EXAMPLE OF BEER BRACKET:
Argument A: blah blah blah blah blah thats why the Chargers will win the AFC West in 2008.
Coors is best cause its made with rocky mountain spring water.

Argument B: blah blah blah blah blah therefore its clear the Chiefs will be the surprise team of 2008, and will shock the world when they win the AFC West.
Budweiser is the King of Beers, with a recipe that has not changed since 1876.
EXAMPLE OF BABES BRACKET
Argument A: blah blah blah blah blah, that's why a salary cap will never work in major league baseball.
Marisa Miller is the queen of all SI swimsuit models.

Argument B: blah blah blah blah, a salary cap and salary basement would not only work in MLB, it's a necessity for the future growth of the sport.
Brooklyn Decker is the hottest SI swimsuit model ever.

See what I'm getting at? True, you only get 3 sentences to state your case, but I never said this would be a normal TD tourney. You would also have to make good arguments, because many of the voters may not be BB&S members, meaning they would actually be voting on your arguments.
The voting criteria, for us BB&S group members, would be as follows IN THIS ORDER.
- The last sentences in the arguments.
- The Hotness of the TD participants Avatar.
- The TD argument itself.
So that's my crazy idea to celebrate our having one of the biggest, most successful groups on Fannation. Certainly, I'm open to modifications and criticisms, even if you think it won't work. So what do you guys think? Would you be interested in participating in such a thing? Is it too crazy to work? You mean, there was text in this blog? Let me know. Even if you think it won't work. Any ideas to make it work better? Like I said, I'm aware TD tourneys fall apart all the time, but maybe this would be one people will want to participate in.

Report Offensive CommentI agree but it needs to be the last paragraph not just the last sentence and the throwdowns need to be about a neutral topic where neither person is going to be necessarily right or wrong otherwise the people that vote that are not in this group are going to ignore our rules and vote for the sports arguments only.

Report Offensive CommentRegarding the mods - I think we would just clear it with them first - if it would be ok. Otherwise theres no sense starting it. They pretty much see everything that happens here (believe me, I know)
I understand Cassidy's point. But I'm not sure if we could get away with a whole paragraph or not. Maybe 2 sentences, but a whole paragraph might be pushing the envelope too far with the Moderators. Neutral topics would take some work too. Some ideas of what those would be would be helpful. I'm not sure we should take sports knowledge out of the voting equation completely.
I think, as far as avatars go - you should have every right to change your avatar before or during the throwdown, whatever you think will get the most votes. Perfectly legal after the TD to change back to your preferred avatar.
This will take some more thought.

"We will be deleting Throwdowns that are not about sports. We will remove Throwdowns that violate our site terms for use, even if they have a hint of sports."
So these TD's would have to have more than a "hint" of sports. Seems like a pretty gray line, though.
