Let me start by saying that this does not go for all Philadelphia fans. There are many that I respect on this site, like Oso, Anthony E., and Phillyman. But the majority of Philthadelphia fans are ignorant drunks with nothing better to do than insult players, both on opposing teams and their own. Lets take a look:

They booed Donavon McNabb. DONOVAN MCNABB! Without him, this franchise would be nothing. Too bad you guys didn't get Akili Smith, am I right Eagles fans? You people need to learn that your teams can make the right choice every once in a while.

They threw snowballs at Santa. We all know Santa Clause isn't real, but how could so many people be so pathetic? The man is a symbol for world peace, so you have to throw snowballs at him?

You guys think that you are better than everyone else, but you aren't. I just read a thread on Jordan Staal's grandfather dying. The first comment in the entire thread reads "Flyers in 7." These words were written by the user PhlyFan36. A kid's grandfather died and all you have to say is some stupid homer comment. I don't even care that you say that. People like him were probably saying "Flyers in four" at the start of the series. And he wasn't the only one.

700 Level Lifer also makes an even worse statement. A fan above him remarked that PhlyFan36's comment was inappropriate, so naturally, this Philthadlphia fan goes on to say Flyers in seven and say that the Penguins coach has a girls name.

Another user that deserves recognition for being pathetic is davep. He goes on to insult Sidney Crosby by calling him a crybaby over and over. Crosby was nowhere near crying. The refs have screwed him this series, not the Flyers. Crosby had a goal taken away from the Refs when it was clearly in. Has that happened to the Flyers? I don't think so.

These Flyers fans come out and call us Penguins fans bandwagons fans. What a load of crap. We have always had a lot of fans on this website. I didn't see nearly as many Flyers fans on this site a year ago when they were the worst team in the NHL. The fact is, the Penguins have always been able to fill the arena, even though Mellon Arena is one of the oldest buildings still in use in the sport. Flyers fans are nothing compared to Penguins fans.

And that is why you Philly fans make me, and the rest of the country sick. And it isn't just you guys. Teams think that when they lose their is a conspiricy against them, especially the Rangers fans. I have some news for you New York, your Rangers suck compared the Penguins.

Philly Fans put the **** in classless

You left one out that tops all of the ones you mentioned...They cheered when Michael Irvin suffered a career ending neck injury. He was motionless on the field and was carted off on a back board.

True Thomlinson. I didn't have a lot of time to write this, so I only threw in a couple things. But that is definately one of their worst.

By pointing out just Philly as a city that is to harsh on other teams??? opponents and on our own players is just plain old ignorance at it???s finest. I am sorry to see that you are hypocritical in your thoughts and then have the audacity to post them on a blog. But hey, it is a free country with FREEDOM OF SPEECH as one of our constitutional rights to be used. I just hope that pointing out the short coming of others makes you somehow sleep better at night. If you would like, we can go thru every team in sports history and uncover mass instances OUTSIDE of Philly that makes throwing snowballs at Santa Claus look like kids play. Would you like to start with Detroit? Seriously, please try to live by what you are trying to Preach...

haha good luck finding more offesnive fans than Philly or New York fans on a consistent basis

As a Philly fan, & not 1 of the jerk-offs, i can def agree w/ alot of what your saying about Philly fans. There was really only 1 thing on here i disagreed w/ .. You said "The Pens have always been able to fill an arena," were you comparing attendence records w/ the Flyers or just making a general statment?
Because the Flyers have had better attendence since at least '01, And in the top 5, at that.

In general.

May 14, 2008  04:01 PM ET

Totally true. What's next? Throwing eggs at the Easter Bunny? When I think of fans in Philly (this IS stereotyping, there are good ones, like you said), they are drunk people that only care about themselves and are never happy with what they get. Remember Rocky, how that dude (name escapes me) throws the turkey out the door? Great example.

Maybe it's because they can't win a title and probably never will again because they try to run the teams themselves (okay, they will win a title sooner or later). But you pointed out exactly what I've been thinking.

Great blog.

Anyway, what ignited this rant?

Another GREAT example.

I wonder what would've happened if Clint Malarchuck or Kevin Everett went down in Philly.

May 14, 2008  04:05 PM ET

But the coach of Pittsbugh does have a girls name? Doesn't that bother you?

May 14, 2008  04:16 PM ET

Dude, you're all over the map here. You started by ripping all the Philly fans, but then you closed on NY. Pick a theme and stay with it. :^P I lived in Philly for 3 years, and, yes, they're all blowhards. Also, Therrien's name is a girl's name in English, but he's French so his name would translate to Michael or Mike. Do we really have to have this Patrick Roy (Wah) argument all over again?

I was with you on Philly fans until you took an unnecessary shot at New York. I'm not much of a hockey fan but if this rant is about Philly, the Flyers and the Penguins you could have left the Rangers and New York out of it.

May 14, 2008  04:35 PM ET

I don't have a problem with New York in general, just the Rangers fans trying to make excuses.

May 14, 2008  04:36 PM ET

And actually, I am from Philadelphia.

Oh, I know he was drunk, but so were the fans. And there was no reason to immediately boo McNabb on draft day.
