Pedro takes big step toward return

Pedro Martinez took a significant step toward rejoining the Mets' rotation yesterday by throwing a 55-pitch simulated game in Port St. Lucie. Martinez threw all of his pitches without problem and even fielded a bunt, giving the Mets hope that the three-time Cy Young winner could be back in the majors at the end of this month or early June.

If Pedro comes back soon, I think it will be good for the Mets rotation because of a couple things:
A) Claudio Vargas may have had a good 1st start of the season, but I'd take Pedro over him any day. Pedro is more proven than Vargas.
B) If Pedro pitches well, the Mets could use him as trade bait to bring in someone who could help the club.
Once Pedro is back, he will be expected to pitch decently, and if he doesn't it will be criticism galore for him. It won't be good for the Mets or Pedro is he pitches badly because the fans will be annoyed. The Mets have given Pedro many chances, and I believe this should be his last chance.

Nope, let's face it. Pedro is old, trade him while you can.

Report Offensive CommentI love it how they say "he'll be back in a matter of weeks" and it takes forever for a comeback.
