Arrested Development

It reads like a Who's Who of NFL Football...

Or, more like a Pro-Bowl Roster of Stars...

But, let me read you a list of NFL Players who have all been in the news of late (actually-- all since the Season ended back in Feb) - and you tell me what these fellas all have in common? Ok?

Bears RB- Cedric Benson-

Lions Safety- Kalvin Pearson-

Colts WR- Marvin Harrison-

Vikings T- Bryant McKinnie-

Bengals WR- Chris Henry-.

Give Up?

Well, my friends, this distinguished list of 5 NFL players have ALL been in trouble with the law!...

And --they rank among the most recognized subjects of 35+ players who have been either arrested for breaking the law, or questioned for information they have about the law.

It's epidemic!

Cedric Benson- is charged with failing a sobriety test while operating a boat (ah)...then resisting arrest before being hit with pepper spray (love that) and dragged ashore by officers. Benson faces charges of boating while intoxicated and resisting arrest.

Kalvin Pearson-  was arrested on domestic violence charges. He was charged with aggravated battery on a pregnant woman and domestic battery by strangulation. (nice)

Then there's Marvin Harrison-  He's being questioned by Philadelphia police about an April 29 shooting outside of a bar he owns in North Philly. According to reports, a 32-year-old man was shot in the hand and a 2-year-old boy sustained a cut when a car windshield was shattered by a stray bullet. The investigation is ongoing. Police are saying--- as of now Harrison has cooperated and is not a suspect.

How about Bryant McKinnie- arrested and charged with aggravated battery, disorderly conduct and resisting arrest after a street fight outside of a nightclub. Reports claim that McKinnie had been thrown out of the night club and then decided to spit on the club's bouncer. (very classy)

And finally - Chris Henry- Who is now suspended from the league and has lost his job in Cincinnati, while he awaits arraignment on assault charges. (Pretty serious).

Hey listen... You know- that I know- that if this was going on in any other sport-other than the NFL-there would be congressional hearings and calls for the commissioner to step down.

But in the NFL, these types of weekly (or should I say- Daily) occurances are met with the usual-"Boys will be Boys".

And to that- I say this...

If Senator Arlen Spector REALLY wants to do something about the great game of Football--- forget about SpyGate and find out what the heck is going on with these players-in the off-season.

For the Monday Morning Quarterback, i'm Arny Schreer

Being a huge football fan, this kind of behavior outside of the stadiums sickens me. These guys are paid millions to be the stars they are (or think they are) and once the season is over, they think it's 'fun time'. It's either DWI's or drug infractions or domestic abuse. I just think that the players should remember what happened to Sean Taylor..., not saying it's the same thing but, seriously. This type of behavior has to be reprimanded and not by a slap on the wrist..., NFL players are supposed to role models for kids, not criminals!

These athletes are idiot's! for most of us it is a dream to be a N.F.L football player.someone to idolize, most of us only dream of having a million dollars! these guy's and their family are set for life(so why do crime?).most of these guy's can retire in their 30's!!!! so why screw around,be stupid & not appreciate the dream & opportunity they have been given! they get millions to PLAY and do something they love for a living.most of us have to grind & stress through our job's each year,to try to feed our families.there is too much greed these day's in the N.F.L as well.too many hold-outs & players going public vs their teams.many turn on their team, who gave these guy's their chance to even play in the N.F.L. How much $$ is enough?? It is getting out of control with the salaries!! boy how things have changed, since walter payton played with us.people like walter payton are the premiere examples of hard work, dedication & appreciation! Players like him are becoming extinct in today,s N.F.L. Nowadays these kid's are set for life with millions, before they even play & earn it!! then when they play well, they want to get paid twice for their performance. They get greedy, they turn on the team, hold out, & go public with their displeasure.rather than keep it in house.Isnt there a saying that goes like 'money is the root of all evil'. People are people.there are good people & there are bad people in all areas of life. The N.F.L is not above receiving bad people from time to time. The N.F.L needs to get tougher on these troublesome players.longer suspensions & permanent ones, for repeat offenders! GO BEARS!! GOOD LUCK IN 2008!
