I wonder who will show up today for the Red Wings/Dallas game 5 set for 1:30 in Detroit.  Will it be Moe, Larry and Curly on the ice while Shemp (Betteman) sits up in the box with his Helen Keller glasses on?  This has been a continuing trend not only in the NHL but in all leagues.  We've been through the whole season, and still can't get it right?  What is the problem?  As everyone knows, it starts at the top.  Yes, it starts with Betteman.  How he goes the NHL will follow.  How can some plays be reviewed while some other plays can't?  Inconsistancy of referee's is the biggest killer of all of sports.  Just recently, the ref's allow a goal I believe in game 2 by Detroit's Holmstrom when he is clearly in the paint.  In game 4 Holmstrom is not in the paint and the goal disallowed?  A Dallas player in the same game (Game 4) is in the paint before the puck and scores and it's a goal.  Huh?  What gives?  One day it's a slash and the next day the very same thing happens and it's not a slash.  One day a hook and the next it's not.  I can go on and on with this and you will probably agree with me that something has got to change.  Are the ref's held accountable when they blow a call?  I'll bet their not like doctor's, lawyer's, teacher's, police officer's, etc..  Why are they different?  Ref's make just as much as some doctor's/lawyer's.  It's almost like these people think; "Oh well, I blew that call and cost them the championship.  Better luck next year".  I've chosen the NHL because I was watching the Det/Dallas game the other night and it was really quite rediculous.  Why would Betteman back one of his referee's when he knew the guy was wrong?  Why not come out and say something like, "He blew the call and we'll be talking about that one tonight".  You can't hide the obvious.  Sports fans are not stupid.  Many of them are very knowledgable and passionate about the game they pay big money to come watch.  I know I'm just touching on that one game but the Pitt/Philly series is also coming up with some real goofy calls also.  My whole point of this article is you never really know what kind of refereeing you are going to see from one game to the next.  This situation can get much better but it all starts at the top.  When is enough, enough?  People are human but that's why we have instant replay.  At least they can take the time to get it right and not cost a team a possible championship.  I know some of you will not like what is written here as there are many pro's and con's to what I'm saying.  I hate it when the fate of a game rests with the ref's instead of the two teams playing.  Don't you?  Today's game (Det/Dal)as well as tomorrows game (Pitt/Phil) should be very interesting to watch.  I wonder who will show up to ref the games correctly?
