I had the chance to attend the 239 Future All Stars Clinic on Saturday afternoon with my son Micah. This was the football clinic that Noel Devine and Quinton Washington, along with several other area football stars put on for our area kids.
From a kids standpoint it couldn't get much better. After all what kid wouldn't want to be coached up by some college football players on the fundamentals of the game? I know my own son had a great time and it was the topic of conversation the rest of the afternoon.
From an educators standpoint, this clinic could not have come at a better time for me. On Friday morning I was reading about the pay freezes we as Lee County teachers will be going through and I was questioning "just exactly why am I doing this again?". One gets to feeling unappreciated, etc. Anyhow, it was refreshing to turn to the Sports Section and read about two of my former players who were donating their own time to give back to kids. This is the kind of pay it forward attitude that most teachers have (and desire to pass on to our students/players), therefore, to see two college sophomores have it figured out this early is just, well, inspiring. I was reminded of why I do what I do for a living.
Who says students can't teach their elders?
