If you told me before game seven that LeBron would score 45 points and the Celtics would win, I would not have believed you. But Pierce played a career game and led his team to a deserving victory.
When I look at the box score, I can see that this game really was very even. Both teams took the same number of shots and had similar shooting percentages, but there are a couple things that stick out. First is free throw shooting. The Cavs shot 71% from the line, while the Celtics shot 82%. In a close game like this, those few points make all the difference. Also, the Celtics had 10 more rebounds and 4 fewer turnovers than the Cavs. These small differences were all it took to win.
At half time, I told a friend by text message I thought we were going to have an historic fourth quarter comeback. When LeBron stole the ball from Pierce and dunked it to make it a one point game, I thought my prediction was going to be right. But kudos to the Celtics for keeping their composure and playing solid defense down the stretch.
I guess now that the NBA season is finished in Cleveland I can turn my focus to the Indians this summer and to the Ohio State football season next fall. Hopefully this Cavs team will be able to regroup and gel as a unit in order to make another run at the title next year.
