So there was this throwdown going on earlier.  I planned on just making a short comment, but I started rambling and thought it would make a nice blog post.  Here is is, let's discuss!

"The NFL has replaced MLB as the national pastime, it's been that way for a couple of years now. Fans don't want to hear about strikes or about steroids scandals. And seriously, how often can the Yankees win the title without it getting to be old hat? The main reason I think this? The salary cap. The cap has had a big hand in the level of parity in the NFL and parity makes watching the game interesting. And of course in a society whose attention span is getting shorter by each reality show minute, 162 games is boring. In the NFL it seems like the playoff race begins by week 4 of the 16 game season. The individual games mean something in the NFL.

Of course all the MLB people talk about the "tradition" of MLB. There is no tradition in baseball anymore. Players bounce around from team to team seeking the highest salary. Sure there is free agency in the NFL, but superstars in the MLB bounce from team to team more often than Brangilina adopt third world babies. The only tradition going these days in baseball are bloated paydays, steroid scandals. And after all of these are said and done and written in the history books they are all going to have friggin astreks beside all of them*

You want tradition? How about Lambeau Field? How about Daaaa Bears? Redskin/Cowboys games twice a year, sometimes even on Thanksgiving. How about Super Bowl Sunday when even people who don't know what the hell football is make it a point to party their butts off. More people talk about the funniest super sunday commercial than do talk about the World Series collectively.

Allright, now I have gotten myself all up in a lather. Sorry for rambling"

I like football 100 to 1 over baseball. However, your argument is flawed. I think the reason kids would rather play pick up football over baseball is because football is easier to learn and play without coaching. However, I know that where I live, way more kids play organized baseball than football and we have a state championship caliber football program. Even though I would rather watch a really bad Pop Warner football game over the World Series, I think that there is more skill involved in baseball, so it is harder for kids to just "pick it up" .

Everything you said is true. I think the main readon why football is more popular is quite simply, it is more interesting. There is more action on every single play and, with fewer games, each one is more important.

Great job, Football is better, even though I do love baseball I have a hard time watching it on tv. Thats what sportscenter is for. Highlights.
