I figured out why my picks thus far haven't been a lock. I've been picking with my heart instead of my head. I've been hoping against hope that the teams I like the least (that being Boston, Detroit and San Antonio) would lose, or at least have a much harder time winning then they did. But no more. The playoffs have turned me into a pesimist. I no longer believe that the Finals will be fun to watch.
Western Conference Finals
Los Angeles Lakers v. San Antonio Spurs
Every fiber in my being wants the Lakers to make it to the Finals because they are the only team left that I would actually be happy for if they won it all. They have the home court advantage, the MVP, and the greatest coach in the history of sports. My gut tells me they'll find a way to win the series, and I'm really rooting for them. But my head says no, the same old same old will prevail.

Eastern Conference Finals
Boston Celtics v. Detroit Pistons
My gut tells me that the Pistons can be the team to upset Boston. I picked the Pistons to go to the Finals back in January or February. My head tells me that Boston will do the same thing they've done in the last two rounds: win all 4 home games. I'm torn on who to root for in this series because I truly can't stand either team. So I had to ask myself: who would I rather see the Lakers face in the Finals? That's easy: Boston. At least that series would be something new yet familiar, a classic revisited. So I have to pick the exact opposite.

So there you have it folks; I'm predicting a 2005 NBA Finals rematch. If it happens, every NBA conspiracy theorist can throw their ideas of Stern's agenda out the window because Pistons-Spurs is the exact opposite of what the league wants and what will generate the most revenue. I hope I'm dead wrong; I hope we get a Finals of Lakers-Celtics that people will actually want to watch. But my head tells me that the Finals will just be the same old ****, and God help us all.
