On May 19th in Boston,a moment went down that will be remembered in the minds in all of those in attendence.Another No Hitter has been pitched by a Red Sox pitcher(the 18th in the club's history).
Jon Lester,an outstanding young pitcher for the Sox was at his best Monday night walking, striking out 9,throwing 130 pitches and giving up:you guessed it......,0 hits.Another stat that may give you an idea of how dominant he was blew me away.Of the 29 batters Lester faced,Lester threw first pitch strikes to 20!Quite amazing.
So as this 7-0 win over the Royals my not have been significant to the outsiders eye,it very much is a touching story. After being diagnosed with Cancer,Jon fought back and came back during last season and pitched tremendously in that stretch. Many fans had tears in their eyes as they gave him a tremendous ovation as the he struck out the last batter and pandomonium broke loose.
Now here's an interesting stat they may show you just how important Jason Varitek(Tek) is to the Sox.He has caught 4,yes 4,no hitters. He was el receptor for the no-hitters of:Hideo Nomo,Derek Lowe,Clay Bucholz, and now Lester.
The bar is now set even higher for the ever so talented Jon Lester, who's grit and determination inspire us all,but he is set to reach that bar.
