The Mets, in dire need of a victory, fell again to the Braves in Atlanta. Yesterday I asked you to imagine a great waterfall, with a crickety raft flying over the side. We can now paint that raft orange and blue. I must also issue a statement regarding my 2 blog re-caps from yesterday.
I happened to call Chipper Jones "Larry Jones" in the re-caps from yesterday. This is not meant to insult those named Larry, nor insinuate that Chipper would be bothered at all by being called his real name. It's simply the way I write. For those of you displeased, I urge you to hold back your own insults or insinuations about me and other Met fans.
We operate a certain way in NY, and as Met fans, we are all too familiar with defeat. We are not 'defeatists', or 'malcontents'...we simply want to see our team win. And over time, some of their follies have been comical, which is why you will find in my blogs specifically some self-deprecating humor. These re-caps are for the fans, and for Fan Nation, which I stated incorrectly yesterday. Anyone can come to see this, however, this is the first time I've seen Mets hate. This coincides with my Wednesday & Thursday slot, giving dudeman his 2 days off. I hope to continue next week, and I will call Chipper Jones "silly-butt" or "toilet face" or something like that, if I choose to insult him. On to the re-cap.

Thoughts:
Broken record. Thats what this is in Atlanta. The Mets were dominated by Jurrjens in this game despite his lack of strikeouts. They managed 7 hits, but when stacked up against that Braves offense, it just wasn't going to cut it. Mike Pelfrey left his sinker up in the zone repeatedly in the middle innings, and got punished accordingly. Luis Castillo didn't help him out by failing to charge a ground ball, leading to 3 earned runs in the 3rd inning. Pelfrey showed live movement on his 4-seam fastball in the early innings, but just couldn't keep it up.
Jose Reyes stole 2 bases to bring his total to 14, and his average is creeping upward. This could be a positive movement for the offense going forward, despite managing 4 runs in this contest. Moises Alou left the game early, walking off the field randomly with what was described as a calf strain. After the game, Alou sounded dejected and a DL stint (captain obvious reported) could be in order. Ryan Church is feeling much better after his concussion. If the outfield arrangement falters further, and Chavez continues to struggle at the plate, don't be shocked in late June if we see Fernando Martinez get some big league at-bats. Today Johan Santana looks to stop the swoon. This is what they pay him for.
Our condolences to the family of the fan that fell from an upper level during the 8th inning in Atlanta. The 25-year old man was pronounced dead later on. Authorities are unsure if alcohol played a role. Regardless, it's a shame.
