Terrell Owens

As Terrell Owens enters the last year of his 3yr/$25 Million contract, several other Cowboys are being rewarded for their on the field performance. Flozell Adams, Marion Barber and  Terence Newman all received lucrative contracts from owner Jerry Jones. It's about time Jerry shows T.O. the money, again. Just look at other NFL receivers that signed contracts this offseason.

1. Larry Fitzgerald- 24yrs old, signed a 4yr/$40 million contract with Cardinals

2. Bernard Berrian- 27yrs old, signed a 6yr/$42 million contract with Vikings

3. Javon Walker- 29yrs old, signed a 6yr/$55 million contract with Raiders

4. Randy Moss- 31yrs old, signed a 3yr/$27 million contract with Patriots

Terrell Owens is definitely as good, if not better, than any of those receivers. His age (34) may put some of you off but remember, Owens is coming off one of his best seasons in which he produced 81 receptions, 1,355 yards and 15 touchdowns. The Cowboys '08 success is dependant on Owens being on the field, healthy and happy. Even though Owens has publicly stated he has no problems with his current contract situation, and is confident Jerry will get a deal done sometime, why wait? Owens is still a dominant receiver in the NFL, and wants to remain a Cowboy. Besides, what other option does Jerry have? The Bengals are not letting Chad Johnson go, the same goes for Roy Williams and Anquan Boldin. Even if any of these receivers were available, what does Jerry have to offer? It's looking like re-signing Owens is the Cowboys best option at this point. Sure, it would be nice to get a young, dominant, proven NFL receiver, but they don't exactly grow on trees. The Cowboys definitely don't have any others on their roster. So please Jerry, show T.O. the money!

TO is bound to have a TO moment at some point. With that being said TO is the oldest guy of all the players you mentioned..he's going to start having a slight drop off(it's guaranteed to happen, the guys is 34 which is pretty old in the NFL). I don't think the Cowboys want to set aside a large amount of money for an aging superstar. Unless the Cowboys can get him to sign for a lot less guaranteed money.

badgerfan, you're way off base. This "TO moment" crap is getting old from everyone. TO had issues before because he played with QBs who couldn;t handle a big personality. Garcia wasn't good enough, and he knew it damn well, to satisfy a Hall of Fame receiver and lead a struggling team.
Donovan McNabb had all the talent to handle TO, but no one can say he didn't have security issues. The man's insecurity in Philly has been apparent throughout his career, and TO just made this problem come to the light even more.
Finally, he is in Dallas where he can just play and have fun. He is on a great team, has a relaxed coach, and is playing with a QB who is great and knows it. NO TO MOMENT IS GONNA COME PEOPLE!

That being said, don't worry about a deal. Randy Moss hit freaking free agency before the Pats re-signed him. Owens still has another year on his deal, and he is fine to keep making the big money as it is. Expect at some point late in the season or next off-season to see TO sign an extension in the area of 3 years, 24-26 million dollars.

I am not buying the TO moment theory. Everything this guy does makes the news. Even when he doesn't do anything there is news of it. It's ridiculous! As far as Owens signing a 3yr/$25 Million contract, I hope so. The sooner the better though.

I don't see a pressing need to sign T.O. at this point. He's 35 and nary another team is going to look his way. Let the season play out. IF Jerry thinks he's worth it at that point nobody will be able to outbid him. No need to give the guy a long term deal with huge up front money at this point.

May 23, 2008  06:18 PM ET

A 3 year contract is not a long term deal. Why wait until next year? Do you really think there is no owner out there that would love to pick up T.O.? Even at 34 he still is a dominant #1 receiver. let's say Jerry does wait until next year and has to outbid another owner, he still has to adhere to the salary cap. I'm not saying the Cowboys should give him a huge contract, but somewhere in the neighborhood of 3yrs/$27 million/$15 million guaranteed. About the same as Moss. Why not? Owens is just as good, and it would pretty much be the same contract Owens signed when he got here. The cap has gone up since then and Owens is older, it kind of evens out.

Its only a matter of time before TO get his money. He's the best Cowboys WR since 88

May 23, 2008  07:30 PM ET

TO may be the oldest but I would wager that he's in as good as shape or better than those others. And maybe just as fast still. He had moments last year that he dropped catchable and important passes. Seeing him on the sideline afterwards pointed one thing out to me. He was upset with himself. I bet he works harder this year to make it better. Jerry will give him money. Maybe not huge money and I think TO is mature enough now to realize he's in the pinnacle of his career and, most likely, it will start going downhill.

May 23, 2008  07:32 PM ET

Heck yeah show the guy another 3 year deal since age is going to catch up with him.

May 27, 2008  05:00 PM ET

I agree that a 3 yr. 24-26 million dollar deal is most likely going to happen. I would guess it happens after they take care of locking down DWARE longterm, but I could be wrong. After that monster deal the Cowboys will know better how much they have to play with. TO has said he wants to retire a Cowboy, they are easily one of the top 5 teams in the league talent wise, he isn't going anywhere. The guy can play into 37 at a high level no doubt.

May 28, 2008  07:38 AM ET

T.O. will in all likelihood retire a Cowboy. Jones will take care of T.O. when the time comes! In the interim there were more pressing contracts to renew, still are!

Do yourself a favor and show TO the door. Please, what does he think he can be a cancer his whole career until he sees the end of the road coming and is looking for that final big pay day and finally decides to act like a civilized human being. A plague on this man and his house may he never touch the lombardi trophy and may the boys never win another playoff game again. Thank God its been over 12 years since these boys won anything in January.
