It was a long flight. Japan is a great place, and the fight promoters treated us professionally. As soon as we got off the plane everything was taken care of. They were on top of everything. When I got there I had bad jet lag so I slept for about 5 hours. When I woke up I helped Mike train. He had to lose a little weight and we went over strategy for the fight. I already knew I wasn’t going to be into the food out there. I don’t really eat fish. I don’t even like the smell of fish. I found a KFC out there but it tasted like fish too. The hotel had breakfast in the mornings so I loaded up on pancakes. I finally found a restaurant where they served beef and rice so I ate there. Next time I go I’m going to bring some food with me.
Fight night everything went smooth. They made us go to the arena real early. They made us show up at noon and Mike didn’t fight until 6pm. So there was a lot of just chilling and sitting around. Mike took a nap. The entrance was incredible. They had fireworks going on and it was a long walk to the ring. Mike came out and dominated the striking and jiu jitsu. He finished the guy with a triangle choke in the first round.
We did a little sightseeing and went out a couple of nights. They play a lot of American music. A lot of hip hop. It was weird. There was a point where I thought I was in an American club. When people think about Japan they have visions of the old school looking Japanese women and culture. But its not like that. It’s up to date with all kinds of advanced stuff. My favorite thing about Japan was the toilet seats. They had heated toilet seats and built in bidets. It was real relaxing when it was time to handle your business.
