Lacriosse started out in New York as a small sport played by hundreds of people at one time and they were alllowed to kill each other. It was played by Native Americans with hand made sticks and the goals were 500 feet apart. Also the game lasted for more than a week. The sport was even more grueling, for the people who played wore nothing but a cloth and had a stick to prtect themselves from the hrash condidtions and the other players on the opposing team hitting you with their stick and beating you to death to gain an advantage.
Anyway....now lacrosse is growing across the Eastern coast or the country for that matter and extends the reaches of the sport worlwide into other countries such as Ireland, Japan, Australia and other participating scattered countries. But there are a few other things I would like to point out. Nowadays, there are international and private leagues, collegiate leagues and within its homeland, the United States there are leagues for younger ages but without the killing and stuff of course.
The growth has lead to many other things such as rallies and large attended games itself along with nationally televised games on ESPN. Lax also has girls leagues as well. In the ned, lacrosse will be as big as baseball and football, no doubt. But for now, one stat. High school lacrosse team activity has grown 400% in Tennessee in the last decade.
