The National Hockey League is a young league and gets more publicity then it deserved. The future of hockey will really depend on the amount of press it will get in the upcoming seasons. Also it relies on the dominance of some teams, the falls of others and rivalries for the main part in all of the action. Also great players need to be part in the action as well. Players like Ovechkin and Sidney Crosby seemed to have already taken over the league in just a few years. Well here are my predictions anyhow....
Hockey will continue to get good time slots on the sports channels and publicity will slowly rise for the NHL. They also fixed one more huge problem in the mix as well. Stadium sizes. They made larger, basketball type arenas and ticket prices soared in some places and dropped for the others. Halftime stuff at hockey games also changed dramatically. Just like baseball. They play games and have fan contests on and off the ice. But the playing changed as well.
Young stars and procspects take over hockey in the future. Owners of teams will not be looking and searching for veterans like Eric Staal but will be looking for the young talent like Crosby and Ovechkin or even the stras that have yet to be discovered. This will take a toll on the fans for a period of time but eventually the fans will know what to look for and not to look for.
But let me focus on the careers of two of our youngest and best players in the league. They are the soon to be household names of all college and proffesional hockey fans as well. Ovechkin will have great seasons and win MVP awards and then he will disappear for a little while. He will make the hall of fame but consistency was a problem for him. Sidney Crosby was always there having just two seasons below 100 points. He led his team to 2 Stnaley Cup victories and was a very unselfish captain for the better of the team.
