I just wanted to do a small tribute to our military vets and those serving now.

Because the FN is a sports site, I will honor Pat Tillman first. A true hero in my eyes, he felt so strongly the need to fight those who would kill indiscriminately, that he gave up a multi-million dollar carreer to eat dirt for his country. Thank you, Pat. I mourn your loss.

To me, Memorial Day means paying respect to all of our serviceman, past and present, living and fallen. It makes me sad when I hear those who would sully our Soldiers, Sailors, Marines, and Coast Guardsmen, because of their misguided idealism. But this is not about them, it is about these men and women:

We all owe these neighbors, co-workers, friends, brothers, sisters, fellow Americans of all colors, creeds, and walks of life a debt of gratitude. It's a debt that requires nothing from us but a proper frame of mind, and true understanding of what they do for the United States of America.

And for me personally, I say, "I sometimes feel like a lesser man that I never served. Thank you Dad, my brother, and my grandpas for your service."

Good blog man.Yes I'm of the guilty party,at times I take our servie men and women for granted, and many kids don't have a clue in the world why they're out of school.God bless all who have helped keep our counrty safe now and over the years!

I mean come on!These guys are putting their lives on the line. Some kid will walk up to a world war two vet and make fun of him and be like"eww, old person," could kids these days show some respect?Sometimes I feel like I'm one of the only ones who do.

Yeah, it's sad to see not just a lack of respect for our vets, but the total loss of both respect and appreciation for the elderly. Old folks have precisely what young people need to prepare for their future, but somehow, kids today are not being taught these basic facts of life. Tsk, tsk, tsk.
