Favorite Cornhusker Moments

This is a runoff of GeorgiaFan's favorite UGA moments:

These will go in order from 10 to 1 with 1 being the most favorite moment.

10. 1900-Nebraska finally earns its permanent name (Corn Huskers) after many  temporary names. Including my least favorite the Bug Eaters.

9. 1983 Orange bowl vs. LSU-Down 17-7 with 6 minutes left in the 3rd quater, Turner Gill took control with 2 touchdowns the remainder of the game. Starting with an 11 yard touchdown pass to Heisman winner Mike Rozier, and bolting into the endzone on a 1 yard run. The defense held LSU to a field goal with 5 minutes left and the offense ran out the clock to defeat the Tigers 21-20.

8. November 3, 1962-Present-The Huskers begin their sellout streak with a homecoming game to Mizzouri. Even though the Huskers lost the game, it started the longest sellout streak in NCAAF History which is still going on today.

7. October 27, 2001-Up 3 points against the Oklahoma Sooners, the Huskers have a trick up their sleeve. After handing the ball off to Thunder Collins, Quaterback Eric Crouch snuck behind a defensive back. Meanwhile Collins pitched the ball to receiver Mike Stuntz who tossed a pass to Crouch. Crouch then caught the ball and sprinted the rest of the way to a 63 yard touchdown. This game ended the Sooners winning streak at 20 games and extended Nebraska's home winning streak to 20 games.

6. December 30, 2000-In the 8th Alamo Bowl, the 8th ranked Huskers ran all over #18 Northwestern. Nebraska set an all-time scoring mark in a bowl game, routing the Wildcats 66-17. The Huskers made the most out of being the highest ranked team to be declined a BCS Bowl.

5. 1970-1971-The first two National Championships for the Huskers, led by coach Bob Devaney. The first game, against the LSU Tigers was a great one with the game winning touchdown coming from Quaterback Jerry Tagge. Tagge dove into the endzone from the 1-yard line to get the touchdown and win the game 17-12. The second championship was a 38-6 rout of Bear Bryant's Alabama Crimson Tide. A game where everything went right for Devaney's Huskers.

4. 1994 National Championship Game-The Huskers faced the Miami Hurricanes, a longtime nonconference rival for the Championship. The Nebraska Option game ran all over the Miami defense led by Ray Lewis and Warren Sapp to win their first championship since 1971. Quaterback Tommie Frazier was named the MVP.

3. Back-to-Back Again-After winning the 1994 Championship, the Huskers were pitted against the Florida Gators. The game lost control in the second quarter, where the Huskers scored 29 points, more than Florida scored the whole game. The highlight of the 62-24 blowout was 3 time National championship MVP Tommie Frazier's 75 yard touchdown run in the 3rd quarter where he juked Florida defenders left and right.

2. Osborne's last game-After winning back-to-back titles in 94-95, and compiling a record of 255-49-3, Coach Tom Osborne decided to step down as Nebraska Head coach after the 1997 Orange Bowl against Tennessee. Osborne's farewell was a picture of power for the Huskers, who blew out the Peyton Manning led Volunteers 42-17. It certainly was a special moment for the Huskers who shared the National Championship with the Michigan Wolverines.

1. Rodgers' run at "The Game of the Century"-A conference game against Oklahoma turned out to be one of the best 1 vs. 2 regular season game ever. After Oklahoma's first offensive series, Johnny Rodgers returned a 72 yard touchdown to lead the Huskers. With one of College Football's greatest in-game quotes ever, "Holy Moly! Man, woman and child did that put 'em in the aisles... Johnny the Jet Rodgers just tore 'em loose from their shoes!"

Honorable Mention: Matt Davison's controversial catch against Mizzouri.

Good luck to Bo... Let's hope he can bring back that Blackshirt D!
