Sorry, but this is yet another blog about Sepp Blatter and FIFA. For those of you who just want to watch good soccer and don't really give a damn about the governing body of the sport itself, I don't blame you in the least. After all, most everyone who has an interest in soccer or any other sport for that matter, see it as a means of escaping the world of politics. Using it as a chance to breath some fresh air and a time to relax and enjoy. Sadly however, FIFA (Federation Internationale de Football Association) is always busy trying to implement changes and flex its muscles. One of the more recent ideas that FIFA has introduced is called The Six-Plus-Five rule. Although The Six-Plus-Five rule hasn't been passed into soccer law yet, FIFA Chief Executive Sepp Blatter says that this measure will be approved by the FIFA Congress at its meeting in Sydney, Australia in just a few days.

 Blatter: Proposed 'six-plus-five' rule

                    FIFA President Sepp Blatter

So what is six-plus-five? It's a proposal that would restrict the number of foreign players employed by any given team to no more than five starters out of the eleven total in the line up. Simply put, more than half of a teams line up must consist of home grown domestic talent. The reasons for this action can be narrowed down to a couple of things. First off being that The English Premier League and the English Commonwealth are one of the top soccer spending nations in the world and are awash with money, enabling it to buy up the majority of the worlds top soccer players.  The only thing that's held them back is that alot of the top players are reluctant to leave their homeland to play in an English speaking country and have turned down offers of large sums of money to stay put. Other than that stumbling block, the EPL is very well juiced with talent. Another concern of FIFA's is that Brazil, a country which produces and exports a large percentage of the worlds best soccer players threatens to overrun the Transfer Market in the years ahead.

Six-plus-five is quite a disturbing scenario throughout the soccer world. There are few countries that actually favor these restrictions. The Europian Union calls this discriminating and unacceptable. Their concern is a valid one. For those people who play soccer for a living........it's a job, and who on earth can possibly tell a person where they can work and where they can't? Everyone deserves the choice of working for an employer who offers them the most money. I deserve it, you deserve it and so don't they. In my opinion Sepp Blatter and FIFA are really starting to overstep there own boundries. It needs to be understood that this is what FIFA wants not what the entity of the world soccer community wants. There is nothing underhanded or illegal about hiring the best players to give a team a better chance to compete and win. That's called freedom of choice and FIFA ought not try and fix a system that isn't broken. I have but one word for the six-plus-five rule. BOLLOCKS!!!!

Wow. That is a horrible rule. If you do that, then players will just stay in their own nation, making the game of soccer regress to where it was in the 40s and 50s. The only leagues that wouldn't be affected by this are the MLS and other 2nd tier leagues. The EPL, Serie A, La Liga, Bundesliga, and top teams in smaller leagues like Celtic and PSV would be screwed. As a Celtic fan, this would hurt the team to an extent that would hamper its offense majorly.

Celtic has foreigners such as Scott McDonald, Aiden McGeady, Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink, Georgios Samaras, and Shunsuke Nakamura as the offensive stars. That's not even counting Pierre-Doumbe and Artur Boruc, defensive foreigners. Are they saying we have to choose who will start not because of talent, but because of country of origin? That is discrimatory and it will hurt the game of soccer immensly.

Isn't it funny that in the NBA largely dominated by African Americans the league imposes minimum age and/or college rules ... in soccer where a few euros but mainly latin american players dominate they have a restriction on foreign born starters. Meanwhile, 14 and 15 year old caucasian boys and girls continue to dominate Tennis with plenty of young priviledged pros (despite the #1 player being a minority) in Golf too.

6 plus 5 is racist!
