I know, I know, this is supposed to be a Braves blog right now. I probably should be talking about the loss last night and the double header going on today. But I will not. I am going to talk about a team that gets no love in a sport that gets no love and then I will talk about something that is truly horrible.
Okay, I did not see any of the three games that led up to this. That is because they were not on television. But as a fan that was really disappointed in the choking performance in the college world series last year by a team that had not lost a game in the whole NCAA tournament and had a 5-0 lead in a game that could have given them a national championship, with three first round starting pitchers no less, I am encouraged by UNC's sweeping of the regionals and upcoming Super Regional against South Carolina. It will be the first ever Super Regional that UNC, the national number 3 seed, has ever hosted, and I expect a national championship this year. Go Heels!
Now, something on a more serious note. The Michael Vick dogfighting incident. This is truly chilling. After seeing the Outside the Lines interview last week and having read the George Dohrmann article in Sports Illustrated yesterday, I truly hope Mike Vick gets jail time. For those of you that have heard of it, and I am sure you all have, but do not know all the details of it, let me explain.
The whole dogfighting premise is that the owners use a bunch of machines to train dogs into fighting. One of them is a "rape stand", which forces the more aggressive dogs to breed. These dogs are trained to rip open the opponents they face in the pits, or centers of dogfighting rings. Oftentimes, an owner will pay up to $40,000 for a dog, one that may only last them one fight. When an owner's dog loses, sometimes the owner will go out back, thinking the dog is now worthless, and shoot it in the head. Dogfighting is a felony in every state except for Idaho and Wyoming, and I think Vick should be punished to the fullest extent of the law.
Do not comment me with this whole innocent until proven guilty crap. The evidence is stacked way against him, he obviously did it. And listen to what Champ Bailey said about this. He said on a radio station something along the lines of, well, they are just dogs, and this is just fun, and if Vick is found guilty of this and gets punished, it will be like he is getting punished for doing nothing. Is it just me here, or does Bailey not have a clue. I am not a member of PETA, but even I know training dogs to fight is wrong. Dogs that get rescued are friendly to humans and people that truly love animals, but, unfortunately, since they are trained to attack every time they see another animal, they have to be euthenized. If you know about dogfighting in your area, please call local law enforcement. Dogfighting is a gruesome practice that must be stopped. Please contribute to it being stopped. And please, law enforcement, punish Mike Vick to the fullest extent of the law.

Perhaps the coach of the Falcons should wet Micahel down and electrocute him if he should, in the future, perform poorly. Or maybe shoot him, beat him, drown him??? You did not know what was going on in Surry??? Yea, right. No excuse, dear "Ookie." The NFL needs to get behind their conduct policy and drop Vick like a hot potatoe. His lies and this obvious abuse need to be made an example of. Not only to other players, but to the fans and for the kids who look up to them. This is not tolerable!

As a former Mike Vick fan and Atlanta resident, not to mention dog owner, I am truly disgusted by this dogfighting bs that Vick has been involved in. For any of you that believe that this is untrue or a fairly new thing to him (within the last 4 or 5 years) trust me when I tell you that you are wrong. He has been around dogfighting for the better part of his life. Like his younger brother Marcus, Mike Vick is a common street thug who, if not for his ridiculous salary in the NFL, would still be on the streets making a living off dogfighting and selling drugs. He is a criminal and belongs in prison.
The trading of Matt Schaub will go down as the worst decision in Falcons history. We should have traded Vick as soon as we got a quarterback as talented as Schaub, we didn't,and now we are screwed. I attended the game last year when Vick flicked all of us off at the Georgia Dome after we booed him for his pathetic performance. I guess we should have just hung him instead of booing, and we would have saved a few dogs. Schaub is a future star and Vick is a current washout, way to go Blank.
In conclusion, Vick, get off my team, I will never come to another Falcons game again if you play even a single snap this season.

What took Mike Vick so long to show his true, trailer-trash colors? He's been a loser since day 1, had an opportunity to change and make a positive difference, but couldn't outgrow his thug, gangster true self. I hope teh NFL bans him and we see him doing prison time...for a long time.

Dawmer began his killing spree at a young age with animals and then killed young men and ATE THEM!! I hope Michael Vick burns in hell!! Vick is an absolute piece of SH&* just like every other athlete who has what us less athletically gifted persons would love to have...the ability to play a GAME and get paid millions. But so many athletes want to throw that all away so they can do what is COOL by RAP standards. Lets own and fight pit bulls, lets do drugs, lets beat women, lets shoot guns outside of strip clubs. I am so disgusted with pro sports anymore and college isn't much better. How many jobs outside of pro sports can you do and get convicted of any of the following and still have a job? I can't think of any. The overpaid thugs get away with murder. I could care less if I watched another pro sport again.

I can't believe what I'm hearing. What a bunch of hipocritical, hateful people. I haven't heard this much hate against a pedophile, woman beater, or murderer of humans! Is this the most horrible crime a sports player has ever commited? I think not! I think the obvious difference here is that these people hate to see a black man with money and they need to think back on their reactions to past players who commited worse crimes. I bet they weren't nearly as angry. This hate is coming from a much uglier place than they are saying. Think before you speak such venom.

I think a lot of folks are outright hypocrites. Yes, Michael Vick made a mistake; but he should not be made to look like a someone's project. By God, he is a grown man! Not a child! Black athletes, since Muhammed Ali, have been under fire by hypocritical "Save the Whales" and "I Love My Pet" White-Folk. It never stops. I wonder who is next? Yet, we see crooks like Martha Stewart get a second chance and she is back on TV! But all I heard most White folks say was "Poor Martha." Then you have those TV hunting shows as seen on the "American Outdoorsman" where "Billy-Bob" with is baseball cap and trusty rifle is out in the woods shooting animals for sport and trophy. That is the ultimate disrespect to animals and is nothing but animal slaughter and inhumane. What Michael Vick did pales in comparison to what those guys do; but where are the voices of discontent against that kind of thing? Those Outdoorsmen are making big dollar "killing" animals. There is a double-standard in America; and Black athletes can't take a pee without someone accusing them of doing it wrong. Telling it how it is.
